The IRS is ramping back up. For a few years they were just bleeding workers. They kind of got put on the back burner for a mix of political reasons, Covid, and they went a little too hard on Richie Rich political donors around the tail end of the Obama era and needed to be punished by the powers that be. It's gotten to pretty critical levels where they've barely been functional the past few years, I even recently heard through the grapevine about an IRS office with mail piled up waist high because they didn't have enough people to process it. Now though they are on a hiring spree and a bunch of new tax laws around crypto and minimum reporting are coming down the pipe. Tax evasion is about to get a lot riskier and I can't imagine these people are on the straights with that kind of stuff.
