So, it’s about time for places to start doing Game of the Year stuff. So, if you want to bitch, here’s as good a place as anywhere. For instance, it’s kind bullshit that Satisfactory didn’t make if to the Better With Friends category on Steam Awards. And it’s even more bullshit that New World which apparently had Mixed scores on Steam made their GotY voting.

Also, if you want to give shoutouts to some actual good games, feel free to do that too. But, if you want to give a shoutout, I find it funnier to make up a dumb award, rather than just a top list, like:

Game I Most Multiplayed: Moving Out. Which a friend and I played for like 5 hours last week. Really fun and goofy. And it had some fun, hectic chaos.

Devil Dice was definitely GOTY for 2021.

I find it funny that Battlefield 2042 is somehow on the list for Steam's "Best Game You Suck At" category.

And while I have been enjoying Forza Horizon 5, the game getting 3 awards in The Game Awards (Best Racing/Sports Game, the Accessibility, and Best Design awards) was too much. Although to be fair, there weren't any other racing and sports games that stood out this year, and the options to dumb down the game further (even though that shouldn't be a thing), and the graphics are FH5's strong points.

The bigger thing I wonder, is which game or company will get the "Worst Game/Company of the Year" awards. And there are a ton of candidates for the said dishonor this year. Balan Wonderworld, COD Vanguard, GTA Definitive Trilogy, New World, the Activision Blizzard sexual harassment/assault scandal, eFootball 2022, Madden NFL 22, Battlefield 2042, the list goes on and on and on.

I would have loved to play Hitman 3, but unfortunately it got Epic'd

Even thinking about playing New Pokémon Snap puts me in a deep depression hole

Deathloop looks like a game made for Redditors

Gal*Gun Returns looks like pedobait

I've never played a Monster Hunter game and don't really know what it is

Battlefield really isn't my thing at all

I played a few minutes of Psychonauts 2 just to look at it and it seemed pretty good

So, uh, Psychonauts 2, I guess.

Metroid, I guess. I didn't really play much that came out this year. Undernauts and Tormented Souls were pretty good too.

Forza Horizon 5 probably would have been my GOTY but I haven't gotten around to playing it yet.

This year felt like one of, if not the worst, on record for gaming. Hoping it's just an anomaly caused by coof.

Metroid: Dread or MH Rise for me because... There's literally nothing awe=inspiring this year that shouted out GOTY for me personally besides those two.

I was pleasantly surprised with Metroid dread though. So would certainly put it as closest to one as possible. Other than that... Lackluster.

Dread is a nod to the old nes/fusion games, really nice but the fucking emmi is boring to deal with, can't comment on MH Rise, never had interest on playing the monster hunter series, psychonauts 2 looks one of the few games where it's still has a bit of creativity but eeh, never understood people sucking off tim schafer and probably never will.

Rise is probably my GotY by default, because it took the stuff I liked about both World and Generations, while getting rid of the stuff I disliked.

Horizons 5 and Hitman 3 are both excellent, but Horizons 4 and Hitman 2 were excellent so I wasn’t too surprised. And Nier: Replicant is great, but I‘ve found it far less compelling than Automata, which was like nothing I’d ever played before (I know that’s unfair since it’s a remake, but still).

Loop Hero is the only game that really stunned me this year, but it’s a fascinating gameplay idea that’s not that much fun to play.
All these choices are bad and you should feel bad.
Thanks. I was going to try to find worse games, but I don’t think they released another Life Is Strange this year.

Ill pick RE8 as my normie GOTY, while smt 5 is my actual goty

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous for me. A great crpg that has a great amount of player choice and a fun combat system (that seems fundamentally broken, but who cares). I couldn't put it down for the 70+ hours the first playthrough took me. Not overly pozzed either.

Also agree with the people who said Cruelty Squad and RE:8. Overall, not the best year but not the worst either.

On one hand, for me it had to be Lost Judgment

Though, on the on the other hand, I have to say Shin Megami Tensei V for the Switch, since it mainly made me keenly aware that people did not know the difference between SMT and the Persona series.

New Pokemon Snap looks like it'd probably have won that spot for me if I'd played it, but didn't yet. Nothing new I actually played is really worth mentioning. I've mostly been playing mobile really, but also older games.

-Deathloop just looks like Prey: Mooncrash but not as deep, haven't played it but god do I hope Arkane goes back to making Immersive Sims after getting the pent up asynchronous multiplayer urge out.

-Psychonauts 2 was great, not as good as P1 but still pretty good

-Forza Horizon 5 was fun but hopefully they finally make a game in fucking Japan

-Battlefield has been shit for so long even the devs said "we don't know how to make a fun game anymore"

-I'm sure Hitman is fine but Hitman has always been the DMC of stealth games to me. Studying tons of bullshit just to get a good grade which amounts to jack shit

As for 2022? We all know who the GOTY will be.
