Forza Horizon 5 probably would have been my GOTY but I haven't gotten around to playing it yet.

Horizons 5 and Hitman 3 are both excellent, but Horizons 4 and Hitman 2 were excellent so I wasn’t too surprised. And Nier: Replicant is great, but I‘ve found it far less compelling than Automata, which was like nothing I’d ever played before (I know that’s unfair since it’s a remake, but still).

I wouldn't call FH5 as GOTY-worthy, even though the game is solid, since it didn't really add much new, and the game has some glitches that can be annoying at times.

On the other hand, given the sheer lack of good titles this year, maybe that's why FH5 somehow found it's way into GOTY nominations...

Do people still get upset at GOTY awards?

I feel like that's something everyone should have gotten over like 5-10 years ago.

Anyways, the only game I remember playing worth a shit was Metroid Dread but even then I'd be hesitant to call it Game of the Year.

The only game that comes close to GOTY for me is Endwalker, I guess. All I played besides that was Dark Souls and roms.

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous was the game for me not counting Early Access releases. Counting Early Access definitely Dyson Sphere Project over WOTR.

The only 2021 release I've completed this year is Nier Replicant so I guess it wins by default. It's kind of funny that the only new game I've actually enjoyed this year I only played due to a recommendation in a genre I normally dislike. And at that it's a remaster of a decade old game. Here's to hoping that 2022 is better and Todd's space Skyrim is good.

Goty really stopped meaning anything( Eh did it ever really mean anything?) When paul over at marketing realized they can just slap "Game of the year" onto a copy of a game and bundle it with dlc and release it again for $40-60. Now please make way for the goty

I will be the first in the thread to say Ratchet & Clank. The new game had a decent amount of emotions placed into it, fantastic graphics, and fun open worlds. It is definitely a high point for the series, and it sucks that it was nominated for so many categories only to lose all.

2021 BETTER WITH FRIENDS WINNER:

2021 OUTSTANDING STORY-RICH GAME WINNER:

2021 SIT BACKAND RELAX WINNER:
FARMING SIMULATOR 22

Surprising, there wasn't much bullshit with these awards, although I don't remember the story being a strong part about CP2077.

pyschonauts2 was a fun game but I dislike most of the story, they sidelined most of the original cast for newer characters that weren't as good. I have played no other games that came out in 2021 so it wins by default I guess? SMTV looks like it might be something I would like to play but I haven't played it yet.
