those are some really shitty odds.. Really glad I never got into the whole "shiny" or EV/IV thing with Pokemon.. would suck alot of fun outta the game EDIT: I tried to do the math, my calculator eventually zero'd out, which means the % of her not getting it on her 4096th try is so abysmally low, it's in a sense impossible?

It's supposed to be that way to make a shiny rare and getting one special. However in recent games they've made it easier by reducing the rates for starters and legendaries. And after you finish the game you can complete the pokedex to get a shiny charm which halves the odds. And there are also mechanics to get them guaranteed after a certain number like chain fishing or mob farming.

There's also the breeding method where of you breed two Pokemon from different regions (i.e., obtained through trade), getting a shiny is actually very easy. Mumei is going to do this later in the game. Breeding also makes getting IVs easier and post game items makes EV training easy.

TLDR: Fox friend can get shinies easily if she does it in post game or uses methods to make it easy. She chooses the tough option likely because she probably had to do it the hard way in the original games back in the day.

For those strong in statistical maths, what are the odds that Friendo managed to catch Pokerus but not a fucking gold Magikarp and/or the odds that she has yet to even catch one?

For those who don't do the whole math thing, at what point did Friendo's want for shiny Pokemon became truly autistic/lunacy?

And no, playing Pokemon by itself does not count for autism to begin with.

EDIT: I guess the one thing that could have saved her all this time was that system that Pokemon Pikachu/Eevee had where, iirc, you caught multiple of the same pokemon in a row, eventually a shiny had to show up. Why did Game Freak/Nintendo remove that QoL??

Right, that sounds about in accordance with what I remember, but Twitch subs count too, right? I think I'd prefer to go that way since it should be easier to set up a Twitch account with no ties to my real name, and also Amazon is slightly less evil than Google.

Last I heard, the Twitch subscription rewards haven't been fully set-up in the Phase-Connect server yet. I think the YouTube membership route is the best option for now, sadly.

Magikarp by multitudes. I think Kanata's Axolotl was about 20 hours in total, Fubuki has been playing Pokemon for over 200 hours. I don't think every second of that was fishing, but I'm sure the better half was. There are, uh, quite a lot of Magikarp-themed thumbnails. And she's fished off-stream as well.
