'No Stupid Questions' (NSQ) Internet & Technology Edition

Thanks, but I think all the buttons are busted. Nothing happens when I follow the instrcutions. When I plug it in the whole monitor acts like it's alive on the software side, it even shows up as a valid sound output for Windows (there is no speaker in the monitor, but it has been that way). I just can't get it to turn on.

Especially sucks since I've been using it as my second monitor (that is absolutely crucial to my workflow, mind you), and I just got a new primary monitor that doesn't need replacing. I usually just get a new fancy monitor and make the old primary my secondary, but idk if I have to go purposefully shopping for a secondary monitor now? I really hate buying second grade stuff, but demoting the current 144hz 1ms nano-IPS monitor to second monitor status seems like a waste. I guess I could just buy two of the same and roll with it, but fuck man I'm not made out of money.
If the capacitive buttons are separate from the display itself, you can try taking your monitor to a repair shop and see if they can fix it. Might be cheaper than getting a new one. I'm also going to shill for the only true way to clean your electronics - isopropyl alcohol spray and paper towels.

Must you be so dogmatic? Just get the $120 1920x1080 monitor that Wal-Mart sells and use it as your second for a while. Once you find a new monitor worthy of replacing your main, then you can go back to the "demote the main monitor" practice. But in the meantime you've got work that needs gettin' done.

Sysinternals from Microsoft can show you the processes that is reading/writing from/to a disk, how much I/O and time they are using and which files they are working with. If it's a new drive and you copied all the content(1-2TB I assume) from an old one disk then I would suspect windows search indexer going nuts. If you are not using the atrocious windows search function then right click the disk and uncheck that, see if that makes a difference.
Defrag shouldn't be the culprit, an easy way to defrag a disk it to copy it to an empty one and format the old one, but who knows what Windows is up to.
I looked into sysinternals and are you talking about a folder of utilities from Microsoft's site? Which one do I use to check disk usage?

Whenever I right click and open a link in a new tab, Brave opens that link in a new tab but it also opens a new window in private browsing (or whatever it's called) mode, with tor. There's an onion link that pops up in there too, something related to Brave as it has that word in the url tab.

Windows 10 //if you know of something quick I can run in powershell to give you more detailed OS info, post it
Brave V1.32.115
I fixed this by unchecking:
Automatically redirect .onion sites
Private window with Tor

Seems kinda weird that it opened a duplicate private tab/window with tor though. Maybe it checks if there's an onion somehow and automatically opens that along with the normal site somehow?

Why do retailers (online or brick & mortar) require you to use their app to get special prices? Whole Foods and lots of grocery stores namely and woot.com for online.

I'll do you one better. You used to be able to use a simple emial address, real or not, to get coupons off A&W Canada's website. You could print them or take a screenshot with your phone and you were good to go.

I went to get a burger the other day and you could no longer open the coupons on a desktop browser and print them, you just get a message saying the coupon site is now mobile only. So I opened the site on a phone, and when I brought up the coupon it starts a god damn twenty-minute countdown until the coupon expires.

Once you've got my app installed, I can spam you with notifications about special deals on my wonderful products. Even if you personally turn my notifications off, many people won't.

It's just another app bro.
Just make an account bro.

Tracking individual customers. It's also done through membership cards and that's how the grocery chain I shop at shames me monthly because they can tally up the cumulative CO2 emissions of the things I buy.

So they're actually discouraging you from buying anything there? Is that a reverse membership card? "Please don't buy anything here because of its CO2 footprint and kindly fuck off"?

No it's just corporate woke. Disparage the customer for being bad then alert them to the sale of cheap beef produced in what used to be the Brazilian rainforest.

Would anyone be willing to share good study resources on Subnetting- specifically with guides to the hexadecimal format needed for it? Working on a plan to get Network+ certified so I can do IT work as a side-gig.

Thinking about buying a soundcard and I use linux. What are your recommendations?
I would go for a USB external soundcard type set up. I used to rock the old lexicon alpha. Do NOT buy that piece of shit. Its fucking out dated to shit. Something like the Behringer UMC 204hd is a good buy. I have one, if you are into making music, I can think of nothing better. You can get bigger ones with more slots if you need them for some reason (like micing a drum kit or something, you will know if you need more inputs for the task you need). It has some really high bitrate and shit, although I find that to mostly be a myth that it actually makes your music sound better.

If youa re an audiophile, I would suggest huffing paint thinner until you die, because its all a faggy marketing ploy to make people spent way to much on shit that has no value. The production and mixing of music dictates the general sound. As long as you are not using shitty laptop speakers or those cheapo speakers you get with a prebuilt pc, your speakers will be fine. I used to have a pair of pro studio monitors I "found" from a place I used to work. I now use some Trust branded stuff, and honestly they sound better, and cost like 80 squids or so.

Phone Verification Question:

Is there any decent methods to create a fake phone number for google that can recieve verification bs, or is the only way to go full burner phone?

So enough bitching about linux, now it's time to bitch about windows:

Keeping it simple. I turn on a wireless controller like I usually do. All of a sudden my computer hitches for half a second, freezing my mouse input. I've been dealing with a bit more freezing and stuff recently. Any suggestions or ideas about what I'm dealing with.

I really, really fucking hate computers.

Windows can be retarded like that. I've had the same issue on a laptop: connecting an external drive froze every USB input devic for a second or two. IIRC updating either the proprietary chipset driver or the BIOS solved the issue.
