Most of us have people in our lives who struggle with serious mental health issues. Maybe family, friends, neighbors, work mates... they're out there. Many if not most of those don't display this level of overt instability, perhaps because they're being treated & are putting in the work to get better. Some & typically there's a cross over, are kept somewhat in check because of "external controls" & by that I mean they have community/social obligations such as work, school & family that require them to be somewhere on time, prepared to do what needs doing & clean & more or less presentable. Many have learned coping skills that allow them to appear normal, at least to a superficial examination.

Over a period of 6 years or more, Chantal has freed herself from these pesky societal shackles; those that she had. She was fired from her job, dumped by Bibi & moved in with a co-operative non-entity she knew would never attempts to put limits on her behavior. She is under no obligation to keep her home clean, doesn't cook & has no outside demands on her time. She's free to eat, sleep, do drugs, shit talk anybody or anything, ignore her health issues & her family places no demands on her. She doesn't have to prepare & keep social engagements with friends - you need friends for that.

We've known for years she's insane & over the last several days, have had front row seats to the utter chaos that is her life & thought processes. Knowing or suspecting the level of her lunacy is one thing but seeing it played out live is something else. Was/is a lot of her stream of consciousness raving cheap talk only? No doubt but there have been frequent, chilling reminders of her inability to consider anything save what she wants & wants NOW & what lengths she might be prepared to go to to preserve her developed delusional state. It's been bad enough that many of us have chosen to dial back on the time we spend watching & listening to her. Idiotic as it sounds, I've chuckled to myself wondering if I was beginning to experience some 'contact crazy'.

Don't have a clue where she's at with Nader; hardly matters at this point. What's clear is that he's not prepared to go zero contact with her, the only way he'll be able to scrape her off. He's playing a dangerous game in order to keep the money flowing in but at his age & life experience level, if he's willing to take those risks, it's on him.

Nothing at this point, is going to change her behavior, her reactions to the heart stabbing slights she insists she's suffering. She's never seen her behavior as problematic; it's the rest of the world that's crazy. We would ALL relentlessly pursue a love interest we KNOW is our destiny, regardless of how that person feels. Secretly, we all 'know' it's perfectly normal to try & buy affection & her initial: "Beat me, abuse me, make me write bad checks" type behavior of capitulating to whatever restrictions he tries to place on her is also a hidden norm.

The level of crazy though - this is past my usual "Buckle up, it's going to be a wild ride" cautions. At this point, a strong prescription anti-puke pill or 10 might be more appropriate for many of us.
