I've heard it called "America's Retirement Home"- and as far as my experience goes, it seems to be true. All the old people in my area head down there after Christmas to ride out the winter until April or May. We call them "snowbirds".

It’s all dependent on what part they’re talking about imo. There’s more than a few places that are perfectly normal with usual people, but there’s also that sense of not knowing what you’re going to see LMAO. For my neck of the woods, there’s a homeless guy that uses a comforter as a girded loincloth with a walking staff. Someone else might have a local crack den or see some tweakers at the store. You just don’t know what’s out there.
