The "RLM fan reaction" of their Matrix review has been interesting.

RLM fans are either doing a 180 on the movie, or doing a 180 on RLM.

Me? I just disagree with them on this particular movie, because the movie is garbage, and that no amount of "self-awareness" makes it not garbage for me. lol.

I haven't seen the new Matrix, but Gremlins 2 is one of my ultimate childhood movies.

I could tell the movie was awesome even when I was too young to understand all the meta shit. The movie had so much more to offer than just that.

When they talk about this new Matrix, they make it sound like everything about the movie sucks except the meta stuff. If that's true, then the movie isn't really that good, now is it?

The meta stuff was insufferable. Hammer-to-the-head, on-the-nose, smug, etc ... And it wasn't even funny or creative.

Gremlins 2 was certainly meta, but it didn't openly show disdain for its own audience. It took the piss out of Warner Bros. for wanting a sequel, and so a more straightforward comedy and actual parody was made from it.

Gremlins 2: "The movie studio just wanted us to make the same movie, so we're doing that right now ... Except it's going to be a parody of the first movie. Now here's some funny shit and impressive puppetry/special effects to enjoy."

Matrix Resurrections: "BULLET TIME! That's what you dumb audiences like ... So consoom, piggies, consoom!"

Needless to say, I don't agree with Mike and Jay's comparisons whatsoever.

EDIT:

I disagree with Mike a little bit less than Jay on their review, btw. Mike said that he was more interested in the second half of the movie. The second half is still trash, but it's just mediocre trash that eventually becomes a bit frustrating because there were some actual good ideas with the world building and whatnot. It wasn't downright cringeworthy like the first half of the movie was, though. Just perfunctory as fuck.

I also had a really hard time sitting and listening to this HitB. I ended up watching it in chunks, because I had to stop when I found myself zoning out.

I think some of the problem is in the editing. They're not cutting these videos down to 30 minutes of good stuff, and instead letting them ramble for an hour.

But, for me, the biggest problem with the last couple videos has been Mike. He's seemed really rambly and unfocused, and it made him boring to listen to. I know the JOKE is that these guys are alcoholics, but I am genuinely starting to be concerned for him. All that Wisconsin booze is rotting the precious part of his brain that lets him have entertaining discussions. Some of the recent BOTW, it's like he alternates between performing a solo bit of comedy, and zoning out while everyone else talks.

i mean he is getting to that age, wet brain is a thing with heavy drinkers, your mind is basically shot by 50 and Mike isn't too far from there. i know some that can't even drive by that age. thats the reason mandatory retirement in your 50s was the norm in a lot of places in the 20th century. the average human brain was mush

The first time I got frustrated with RLM was that 40 minute Ring Theory bullshit.

Looking back at early BOTW episodes they are so tightly edited with very little guff. Rich could make a Tranny Tracker joke without Josh and/or Jack soymouthing the camera in fake shock.
It was weird rewatching early episodes and hearing shit like that and realizing how quickly everything changed from where that was a maybe slightly off-color joke to being a horrible slur in like three years.

Even when I disagree with RLM, I have to admit they saw the same film I did.
I didn't see the latest Matrix film, because the only meta I want to see from the Wachowskis is how two hacks bumble into making a decent film, and then spend the next few decades spraying CGI vomit at the cost of hundreds of millions.

I'm amazed some of their early videos are still up considering how puritan YouTube has become. They use "retarded" several times in early Half in the Bags and the Zaat one has the clip of the redneck sheriff saying "nigger". They must be "too big to cancel" like Dave Chapelle where only a small minority hates them but their larger fan base downs out the haters, or they are small enough that the moral crusaders don't comb through every video to find problematic content and only go for the obvious targets like Starship Troopers.

Also I think all of you faggots ranting about why they gave it a positive review stopped listening halfway in because Jay is clear why they liked it:

As Jay said, yeah it's a terrible action movie, yeah it's a terrible matrix sequel, yeah all of those criticisms are valid and more, but unlike all of the reboot shit that has come out in the last couple of decades, it actually tried to do something different than just repackaging the same shit over and over again so that's why they gave it a pass. Now if what it had tried was a buddy comedy with a dog, sure they would have shat on it, so it helps that it was apparently meta as a fuck, it's a fuck you to the movie industry, etc...

Like the last four minutes make it clear that it's because of that above anything else.

And Mike liked it because his brain is riddled with holes due to alcoholism and star trek so who the fuck knows

The review was dumb and their gushing over the meta stuff was like reading a reddit thread about Rick & Morty but I still look forward to their next video. I've disagreed with them before and probably will again in the future.
If you haven't realized RLM will fucking jerk off any movie that winks at them or "does anything different" by now..then you haven't been paying attention.

Jay is clear why they liked it:
I know why Jay "gave it a pass" and I am saying even with that pass the movie is shit, because even the "META" parts of the movie are terrible and boring.

Everyone calling them rambly is right on. Review starts and immediately the medium-fat one goes into a ten-minute recap of the first movie. Jesus dude.

I think I spot at least one faggot who doesn't get that that's why we disagree. Different =/= good, Poindexter.

And you talk about not paying fucking attention.

Jay: "This is the kind of movie that's going to get more hate than it deserves and more praise than it deserves."

Also Jay: *proceeds to give the movie more praise than it deserves*

lol.

I also find it funny that the people who are more positive about the movie love to trash the casual moviegoer like the movie does.

"Bullet Time! Hurr durr durr! That's all you people ever liked about the first Matrix movie, you plebs!"

Literally nobody asked for this stupid sequel ... And the movie is a massive flop on top of that. Sure, though: the audience are the idiots, not the creatively bankrupt movie studio or the people who sniff their own farts from a wine glass filmmakers.
