Scotland can't go independant, they can rejoin the EU but they can't leave the UK and go independant. Their armed forces is British, their currency is British, Their universities, hospitals, medicines, schools and nurseries (for kids not plants) are paid for by the rest of Britain. Their only decent exports are whiskey, which would be fine, and oil, which belongs to the Brits.

Personally I wouldn't enjoy having Brussels sat north of Newcastle.

I found this:

Summary

  • Developed economy democracies are constructing a thirty-year threat/growth narrative to follow the COVID-19 narrative.
  • The thirty-year threat/growth narrative requires monetary and fiscal policy expansion on a scale larger than the COVID-19 response.
  • The American thirty-year narrative involves the funding and creation of a bipartisan consensus from the perceived Chinese threat via Latin America.
  • In view of the thirty-year narrative timeline compression, the Fed has limited time and space available to taper.
  • The Fed’s pivot from its inflation mandate to its employment mandate will require a new definition of what full employment means in relation to the COVID-19 experience.

There is a lot more to the article and I highly recommend checking it out.

Meanwhile Turkey is still getting BTFO and the UK is expecting food shortages due to new customs regs.

Edit: BOOM! Called it with China making moves in South America.

Called it with China making moves in South America.
I love how the article keeps talking about "Latin America" as if that isn't the most vague thing ever, but only specifically mentions I think, Nicaragua and Venezuela, which aren't even next to each other.

I hope there are lots of videos of what happens when Chinese folk that try to take over (with the permission of the governments) run into the cartels that actually run those countries. 'Twill be messy, I fear.

What is the gravel situation in South America? Is it all so tiresome?

EDIT: "Oh, you guys eat dogs huh? We'll show you!"

Merchant =/= a member of the Mercantile class in a classical sense.

People like blacksmiths and carpenters were considered artisans, yes they were technically merchants in the sense that they sold goods, but in actuality the merchant class was represented by the business moguls of antiquity.

If you're interested in understanding this nuance I'd suggest reading up on Marcus Licinius Crassus, he's the archetypal figure of the Mercantile class of antiquity; both in his success as a business man, and his untimely demise after his foray into politics.
it's like the difference between an engineer and a sales executive

Everyone talks about China, America and Europe but what about Australia and Southeast Asia? Are we potentially fucked in the abyss as well?

I covered some of what is going on with Brazil and China earlier in the thread. The Chinese have designs for South America as part of their Belt & Road plan. As per the article Nicaragua is supposed to be their site for an alternate Panama canal-type endeavor.

“Ortega also wants continued Chinese funding for the construction of an Atlantic-to-Pacific canal through Nicaragua, which People’s Liberation Army warships can then use to access the Caribbean.”

They are actively putting the screws to Brazil in an effort to monopolize the country's 5G systems, which Brazil has only halfway whored out to Huawei. Apparently Poohbear didn't like the fact that the Brazilians denied Huawei the contract for their government 5G and left them to slurp up data from the plebs.

Brazil is also one of the top food producing countries in the world, and China appears to want dibs on that so they don't have to rely on the US or Euro-zone countries for food (primarily beef, which is what I talk about for the first few pages of the thread, but also soy and corn).

Given the close relationship between Brazil and Chile I wouldn't be surprised if China is making moves on Chile as well. I'll see if I can find anything about China/Chile relations to share.

Doesn't Brazil have this thing where they can't efficiently ship things both within and going out of their territory due to all the cliff faces and mountainous terrain? And the coast line is on the wrong ocean.

Ask your Chinese master how fucked you are.

Chile and China depends on how much the Chinese want copper since that's the main Chilean export. Maybe fish too, but the Chinese don't ask for that, they just take, although presumably if China legally convinces Chileans to fork over their salmon and crab and whatever else they raise in their aquaculture industry then it's a little easier.
