I maybe a whitest of white boys out there, but it's always nice when First Nations people take the time to talk to us. To be clear, I am not indigenous. I am however well versed in indigenous politics and the modern history of the AIM and Canadian Indigenous movements, and for various personal reasons relating to people I know, it's something I hold very close to my heart.

There are tangible needs native communities have, and discussions and fights that need to be had in terms of honouring the treaties that our settler ancestors signed. There was a tragedy in the Americas, because European settlers did wipe away a continent's worth of civilization and history. Tom talks about his bastardized, white consumer version of Lakota spirituality a lot, but he doesn't talk about the actual needs or political actions of any of the people on the territory he talks about "honouring". People like Tom make it impossible to talk to the average person about anything related to indigenous politics, they literally spoil the conversation with their hippie nonsense, because people now associate native politics with New Age bullshit. Everything becomes a generic protest against the evil modern world, instead of actual demands. The Alcatraz occupations a good example: it was specifically about the Treaty of Fort Laramie, and the fact that surplus lands were supposed to be returned to the Sioux. It's why the courts ruled eventually that the Sioux were owed billions of dollars because the land was taken in violation of a lawfully sign treaty. These aren't vague claims of injustice, its the actual legal history of the United States that's being talked about here. For Tom, it's a literally just like a concert or festival, it's just another generic event to prove the hippie credit of his stupid rainbow family.


This is where I find it exhausting to have what many would consider lefty political opinions, but be very at odds with a lot of modern progressive movements. Right now in a lot of progressive circles, especially online, if you tell people that you don't think astrology is real, people will accuse you of being bigoted. My peers have been deeply respectful of the elders who have taught us and have honestly tried to walk the Red Road they described, which really isn't any different than the Noahide laws my ancestors have lived by for thousands of years. I have a lifetime of study in ecosystem engineering along with opposition to the unjust, immoral and unethical way of life that is the industrial fascist society masquerading as democracies.
