Kazakhstan unrest and future of the country - Protests erupt around ex Soviet country over fuel prices.

So it's now absolute shitshow in Almaty with looting police weapons and robbing banks.
In the other places it seems more mild.
As a Ukrainian with a first hand knowledge of similar situations - now it's up to local elite, including criminals. If criminals give "three days to rob"-kind of go ahead, shit will start real soon.

It'll probably be easier near centres with important factories and productions - criminals are usually best friends with businessmen.

The rest of the country's about to get fucked six ways to Sunday.

That is why you don't do go strongman route, my children.

If you really care about your motherland, then you will create a system that will function without you, not crumble into dust.

This is Russia's future, by the way.

ARMENIAN PRIME MINISTER CONFIRMS

this does not look good for several reasons.

1. Military invasion/occupation from different background/culture always goes bad. It's easier for both sides to escalate and shoot dude who isn't like you, doesn't speak your language/religion, it's easier to demonize the other side and go apeshit. Atrocities will be committed. It did not go well to Russian volunteers in Chechnya, conscripts were POWed, contract volunteers had their throats cut like goats. Are Kazahs like Chechens ... will find out.

2. From morgue pics it looks like a whole bunch of people don't fuck around and were willing to take lives. State will try to hunt the shooters down, 100%, shooters know this shit, there is little chance of de-escalation.

I am kind of sad for Armenians. They got their ass handed to them recently by Azerbaijan Turkey. Do they need more dead bodies? Sit home, mind your own fucking business.

I need more pop-corn. Hopefully all kiwis with family there stay safe.

Didn't expect Kazakhstan to be one of the first nations to pop off thanks to the escalation in food and fuel costs. There are some really fun geopolitical implications from this shit.

Judging from the demands it's waaaay more than just escalating prices. That was just flash point and now all the pent up grievances are coming out.

Relationship to Russia deserves it's own thread, but in a nutshell there are a lot of Russian neighbors who have turned their back or outright hate the "big brotherly nation", hence going from Cyrillic alphabet toward more commonly used Latin.

Keep in mind that the choice of going to EU or go with Russian lead custom union is what lead to Maidan2014 in Ukraine and despite all the conspiracy bullshit, there is 0 lux of glow there. Going to EU means free travel to EU, work for more money etc. going with Russian union instead offers shit to people and it's been painfully clear how it worked for Kazahs so far. Uks can freely travel in EU which is a big deal. Yeah, that means lots of people leaving to work slave jobs in Germany or Poland, but it also means opportunity and freedom of travel. A lot of cucks in Crimea who tore their Ukrainian passports, once Ukraine got visa-less regime, were asking about how to restore their passports so that they can travel restriction free.

Also, for most former republics, forcing Russian language down their throats while denigrating local language and customs have been norm. Now that USSR is no more, younger gen wanders why TF they need to feel like second class citizens on their own land. That's probably why complaints about restrictions on Russian schools getting brought up.

As to "native" Russians in Kazahstan, every single x-soviet republic remembers mass resettlement of native population to Gulags while bringing and attracting Russian settlers to form islands of forever support for Moscow. That have been a common scheme in most of the republics. Most of those colonists neevr bothered to learn either local language or local customs and only demand that everyone speaks Russian with them and Russian stays at least second state language. Fuck that shit.

Don't worry so much about posting when its a rapidly evolving situation. We never cared much about the riots in 2020 or when the Taliban decided to form a mad max death squad of bikers, trucks and captured humvees before storming up the highway from Khandahar and took the Kabul in 8 hours. If people aren't providing content then they shouldn't bitch about frequency of posting by people who do on shit storms evolving at a rapid pace, its the Happening section of these boards, not the "900lbs fat fuck makes an ass of himself on a youtube video" section.

Also there are apparently terms being given by the rebels that want to sever ties with Russia. This is a very clear tell that some form of Western agency is involved, most of these 'Stan countries are lukewarm at best to Russia but they hate China, India, and the EU more. Its very uncharacteristic for them to give a fuck about Russia, particularly when the stated goal is displeasure over the fuel prices.
