The '2000 calories a day is normal adult needs' and the fat logic facilitators for 'drinks don't count towards calories', alongside the absolute shite knowledge westerners have about how to cook vegetables (am know, huge proportion of my meals are literally from online recipes of non western cultures since they seem to know how to cook vegetables) very particularly screw over female office workers who are mostly sedentary- only really active women need that much, and it's been adjusted to men who are much taller etc. 2000 is really only for an active woman.
[Alongside yes only 14% of Americans live in food deserts but outside of this in Burgerland fhe price of vegies being not cheap af resists idiot-proofing healthy/normal eating.. possibly Aus having vegies as a legitimately cheap staple meant we're not quite as fat, still fat though]
All these things mean the average western woman 30+ working in an office job is inevitably relegated to the plus size department. Overworked (because most working mothers still do the majority of childcare, housekeeping, planning) and yet needing to seem happy about it.
Its a consoomer dream- be fat, feel ugly, sleep-deprived and the problem is you. Project crazy ideologies on your kids, given that fathers are seemingly just grown up children now with noodle arms and Lego and video game addictions.
The obesity epidemic has a de-vitalising effect on both the sexes, and it's truly sad and gross.
Nah, veggies in the US are plenty affordable if you’re not buying imported stuff that’s out of season. I would kill for some US prices on produce. It’s one of the things I miss most about the place.
People who are fat and/or vegetable inept just weren’t raised in households where fresh produce was consumed or cooked. It might have to be related to location, because I associate paper plates with canned corn and canned green beans to be a Midwestern/southern thing. I also find people who rely on a lot of microwaved or frozen food tend to never eat vegetables.
I didn’t come from a gourmet household, but I’m sure fucking glad my parents were somewhat competent in the kitchen and always included some sort of vegetable, salad etc. with meals.
