If we're using Hitler as a model, the 'American Hitler' would come from whatever side of the political spectrum you wouldn't expect a dictator to come from. The consensus opinion at the beginning of 1933 was that Hitler wouldn't become Chancellor, or that if he did, he would be a puppet of the conservative/nationalist faction.
