Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Does anybody remember Villainous? It was a series made by CN Mexico focused on the Infamous Black Hat Org ran by Black Hat and his crew of less than competent Side villains, the organisation deals in helping other supervillains with their hero issues and all the adventures in the process. It was originally released online as YouTube shorts back in 2017, yet seems to have been in some form of development hell since then with no official US Release or even show release date confirmed?

Does anyone know what’s going on behind the scenes? It’s a shame since from what I’ve seen the setting and characters are so vivid and creative and it’s such a original concept it’s a shame we may not see an official release for quite some time. Always great to see new foreign talents on CN as well.

Downtown

I think I found a show that tried to be unique with how they tackled diversity before MUH DIVERSITY because they didn’t try too hard to browbeat or condescend to their audience about how they should be portrayed in the most “politically correct” way possible. It also shows that 90’s MTV makes current day MTV look like a checklist of corporate approved and bought and paid for actors pretending to know what the younger generation want in this landscape.

Plus, it reminds me of Mission Hill, and I read they’re bringing back the series for a reboot for some reason.

The Hotwheels Accleracers and World Race movies also did a good job with showing diversity without shoehorning it in like a checklist item like we see these days.

Downtown is set in NYC, so there will be different cultures, but it treats them as ordinary people. This helps by the scripts having some improve making the characters feel more natural. I think the creator got the rights back since all the episodes are available on Youtube.

Whoa! What a weird time capsule. I forgot this even existed. Not a fan but I'll give credit it's very creative. Ironically watching the first episode if this show was created today it would fit well on YouTube or Amazon. So many average Joe's and Jane's are more interested in video games and comedy drama than they were in the 90's and early 2000's.

I liked this show, a YouTuber called Marsreviews introduced me in a video reviewing every Major MTV show ever made, I always had a keen intrigue in shows set in urban settings where characters would mainly chill out and conflict was minimal. It made for a relaxing watch. I wish MTV would go back to making other animated series but the long awaited B & B revival is coming up so that should satisfy longtime fans and me enough.

I remember it being widely popular on the Usenet newsgroups that fans were really pissed when it was cancelled.

Gotta love the MTV references the creator made on Megas XLR when they canned it (Downtown).

Does anybody remember the show Time Squad? It aired in the early 2000s on the CN and focused on the adventures of three time cops who live in the future and use time travel to go to different eras of history preventing major historical figures from straying from their paths in history to ensure the timelines safety and prevent the worlds future from being drastically changed. The series was notable for being the first series Cartoon Network actually ever produced independent from any Hannah- Barbera members following Williams death in 2001. It ran for only a single season until being cancelled due to low ratings despite being nominated for 5 Annie’s during its run.

The show is honestly an underrated gem with some great early 2000s animation, with the thick outlines and hard angular character designs and scenery iconic to that era, the concept was also pretty unique and allowed for some great character dynamics between the main time squad and allowed for some really funny and unique reimagining’s of famous historical figures and their histories.

But the strangest thing about this show is that for some reason after it ended it was really wiped from TV and even the Internet to even today. It only ever had one DVD release in England back in 2004 and has never been officially released fully on any streaming platform, neither on Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, or even The recent CN app or HBO Max taht has almost every CN show to date. It brings to question of why? What about the series has made CN want to pretty much deny it’s existence to this day? Is it copyright law, does anybody care or can explain this shows strange disappearance?
