Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

@Gehenna regarding corruption.

This comes from a bitter boomer I knew.

Just before my time when the economy was really booming. You made alot of money working for the private sector. If you had a public sector job you were a loser.

So as the Scott Adams points out in one of his late 90's books. The era of down sizing happened. where people who did their jobs could be down sized out of their job.

Adams basically says that most of his Dilbert books are jokes about how managers used to have 2 things to motivate their employee's the first one being.

1) Money

and

2) Job security

As adams put it after the great down sizing, managers had to motivate employees with out giving them money, or job security.

The public sector didnt get the same treatment. So now those loser have better benifits, better pension, and that boomer bitching to me about this was just so fucking salty.

What does this have to do with corruption? Well when people like to whine about how good public workers have it. They should keep in mind that paying them well makes to so Bribes<Job benefits which is what keeps corruption out of the DAY TO DAY lives of most Americans.

You are correct about their needs to be alittle quid pro que in politics thats why I find the break down of our political process to amusing.

O.K. this one got my attention. Wouldn't the birds just fly away from them, or are windmills just powerful enough to suck in a bird and kill it?

There are a LOT of birds, and their mobility allows them to move through a lot of space. Windmill blades typically don't move fast like a fan blade or airplane propeller, so they don't appear to be a hazard. Birds also flock, and the head of the flock might see the blades and think it's safe, but the back of the flock is only paying attention to the birds around it.

For example, the high end of fatalities from window strikes is a billion birds a year. Now there are a LOT more windows than there are windmills, and I'd say bird hazard is a more minor example of the drawbacks to windmills. It's a very good example of it not being the green dream climate nuts make it out to be.

i really hate faux-environmentalist urbanites that push for wind and solar and completely disregard nuclear.
makes me MATI.
In the end if people want to maintain their current standard of living they will have to eventually give in and accept nuclear power. Hardcore environmentalists might be willing to reduce their power consumption by 80% but the average person won't.

Fossil fuels are a finite resource and wind/solar/etc just wont cut it. I don't know of any other realistic option other than nuclear.

His popularity on covid was always misleading. And it ties into why they didn't go positive from the start.

How to put it.... alright! Say that you are renting a property, your landlord does nothing, the paint is peeling off, the roof sags, and you got cockroaches everywhere. Then, a new guy buys the property and promises to fix it up if you only give him time. He constantly makes noise about trying to help you and looks like he is trying to do... something. But it never gets done.

That is Biden's covid situation. The popularity was "At least he might do something about it" after much of the general populace was critical of Trump's handling of the issue.

It was never popularity for what he -was- doing, it was the popularity of what they -hoped- he'd do and is why his popularity has steadily decreased on the issue.

There is no meat here, no real policy. They couldn't go with a positive message from the start because they had to actually -do- something first. They had to spray for cockroaches or paint the walls.
Its a telltale of imperial collapse when the leadership is either unwilling or worse, unable to solve the issues that plague the nation.

Its all downhill from here.
Not that I don’t agree tbh... but what’s the reason for that? Was it just bad luck/miscalculations? I haven’t always been the most attentive to politics, but the current Admin seems to be entirely disconnected with both the physical and political reality of the current situation... and yet no one on the inside seems aware of that, and for the life of me I can’t tell why.
Actual populism, seriously.

South america is rife with populism, one of the major reasons why they do so bad is they keep voting people like biden who overpromise and underdeliver.

There's even a saying in brazil, goes like this: "brazil is the country of the future and always will be!"

What they mean is that their populist leaders keep promising them all kinds of shit but it never happens, the bright future never arrives.

Same with other countries in that region, many really have the potential to reach the level of per capita income of say new zealand but to do that they would have to get their shit together, work and save and sacrifice for at least 30 years. That wont get you votes, you know what does? promising free shit for everybody, does that ring a bell?

So we're basically turning into a banana republic, for real.

Our system is corrupt... and that's a -good- thing.

There is a sort of... thin grease of corruption that lubricates the political process. You scratch someone's back, they scratch yours, under a few unwritten but clearly understood rules. Don't get too greedy, always ensure that whatever kickbacks you give is less than the good of the bill you made, and don't sabotage anyone else. This thin grease of corruption is necessary to the political process, ensuring everyone benefits including the public. It is massively important to smoothing over the bumps and snags of the political process, to make a bunch of politicians generally agree and provide enough fuel to them to mollify their voters.

The problem for the Cabal is that the steal cost them everything. Every favor, every contributed scent, every bit of capital. It was like someone power washed it with ocyclean. That thin grease entirely removed. And without it, the cabal had to do everything the hard way. Any deal it made, any negotiations it was in, any proposals it created... all had inbuilt resistences and no way to smooth them over. So they got lost in debating increasingly tiny minutia.

There's another problem, which is that Americans are fond of believing that our government isn't corrupt. Sure, individual actors might be, but we've always believed, however rightly or wrongly, that the government as a whole is not corrupt. Trump's administration caused the rats and roaches to come right out into the open, forgetting that their place is the shadows. We had rats proudly strutting in front of the camera, showing us their cockroach farms, bragging about all the filth and slime they had accumulated over decades, trumpeting how never fear, they have so completely rotted the foundation of the republic that they were going to effortlessly collapse the floor under the Orange Man and drown him in the sewer they'd lovingly crafted.

Cat's out of the bag. There's no going back. They didn't just call in favors, they sacrificed every last bit of public trust they had just to get the gravy train from China, Mexico, or wherever back on track. America is now a low-trust society, like Mexico or Brazil. You can command people to pay taxes. You can command people to wear masks. But you can't command them to trust you.

Windmills are the biggest environmental scam since solar panels.

They are an unreliable source, so you'll always need conventional sources to turn on, they burn up a shit ton of lubricants so they still use fossil fuels, they chum up the skies by killing tons of birds.

I'm assuming since powerful entity profits greatly from their production(China? It's an awful lot of steel and aluminum. I'd actually be curious about how much metal production is required per X kilowatt-hour, mining and smelting metal is very polluting). Biden essentially doesn't do something if it isn't profitable for his sponsors(it seems all he does is product rep for Pfiezer.)
Actually a lot windmill blades are some lighter fiber material because aluminum would weigh too much, so the blades cannot be recycled and are forcing us to create new dumps.

Wind turbines also interfere with the mating of ground fowl such as Prairie grouse. Something to do with the frequency of the turbine impacting their ability to hear mating calls. Guy I used to work with did a study on it and the nesting patterns completely changed when windmills showed up.
Also kills bats. Lots of fucking bats. Explodes them via air pressure of the blades spinning. We have no clue how many actually die to wind turbines every year, only that the number is high.

Trump fucked up a lot during his presidency but by far his biggest mistake was not dismissing Fauci from federal service.

*Dismissing Fauci and nuking his reputation to hell and back on the way out. Otherwise, Biden would just have re-declared him king of COVID (like he already did).

Fauci has tons of skeletons in his closet, so torching him wouldn't have been hard. But just dismissing him wouldn't have fixed the problem.

They may not look like they're spinning all that fast, but most people don't realize how huge they are. The further away from the prop hub the faster the leading edge of the blade is traveling as it spins, and the blade tip of a big boi turbine can apparently reach 130-160mph in its normal operating range. Looks like they're feathered or braked at a maximum blade tip velocity of about 180mph, so yeah any bird in the path of the blades are toast

A good rule of thumb: if something is producing a megawatt of energy, there's probably some huge forces and speeds involved.

How many environmentalists have you seen discussing the peril of making billions of people use disposable masks every day that are then thrown into trash, on the ground, into waters, etc? In 50 years, you'll still find disposable masks from the covid era washing up on beaches around the world. Not a single environmentalist gives a flying fuck, so I refuse to take them seriously on any issue.

I personally believe that environmentalism in general, and climate change in specific, has been weaponized by the CCP as one of the tools to establish their industrial supremacy. Though as I get older, it seems like it was further and further back that the term "environmentalist" was synonymous with "exceptional hippie nutjob."

I prefer the using the term conservationist/ism. It's too close to conservative for any mouth breathing NIMBY activist to attach themselves to, and I personally adhere to it as a realistic approach to trying and preserve wild areas, and do the minimal impact on the environment while still maintaining a modern society

My guess is that the admin's official line is to blame this fire, like every natural disaster in the last several decades, on global cooling global warming climate change, and demand more green spending so that we can save the planet and it'll never happen again. So Joe's just stumbling through the usual greenie talking points in his mushbrained manner.

The problem, which is obvious to anyone with half a brain, is that, when you've lost your home, your job, and your whole community, you really don't want to hear about how this is all Big Oil's fault and we need to go back to living in huts. No, what you want to hear is what the fuck is the government going to do to help you start to rebuild. Trump understood this, and while there's certainly an ego factor in it of wanting to look good for the cameras, I can't remember a single time where he wasn't focused on the rebuilding message after a disaster.

All this says to me is that the Democrat party is full of absolutely incompetent staffers that don't know a single thing about optics.
I think it's going to be even bigger than this. This is the first big massively destructive American wildfire of the 21st century that didn't happen in one of the coastal states. the coastal states have all been under one party rule for a long time, their emergency infrastructure has degenerated to a terrifying extent, and people no longer expect much or anything from the government. Colorado, on the other hand, is still functional and still populated by people who expect to shit to work. People are going to be sitting up and paying attention to the huge difference between how the two evacuations of Santa Rosa and the evacuations for the Marshall Fire were handled.

it was further and further back that the term "environmentalist" was synonymous with "exceptional hippie nutjob."
You are referring to the earliest of the movement -- the "tree spikers" and their ilk that would chain themselves to trees to keep loggers from harvesting them. But, chickens always come home to roost. One need look no further than the idiots that did this and changed forest management policy to "save the trees" and "save the spotted owl" and "save the whatever three-toed salamander slug" are the very same ones now reaping what they sowed -- deadly, huge wildfires that consume 1000's of acres, homes, and property all over California and parts of the West.

Funny how you don't hear about those ol' hippies anymore. Now it's just universally called "climate change," not fucked up forest management policy.

(couldn't quote) Ruin said: "Industrial wind farms for power generation are also really fucking ugly and really fucking loud so it's hard to find acceptable sites for them because you can't really put them anywhere there are homes or businesses nearby."

If you get the chance, drive across I-40 sometime. From eastern New Mexico to Amarillo, TX (and some east of Amarillo), there are nothing but these huge windfarm towers everywhere. Perfect place though, it's naturally windy through that corridor and there's more cattle than people. But it's amazing to see them stretching for mile upon mile in all directions.

I wonder what sarah palin's up to these days
When Trump came up, she basically ceded the spotlight to him and went back to raising her family. I think on some level, she realized how toxic her brand had become and effectively got out of sight so Trump could get elected since he was pulling in new Republican voters from the disaffected liberal ranks that still hated/distrusted Palin.

Yeah, but I was under the impression that the populous was in favour of Biden in the pandemic affair, he was indeed quite popular at the start of his mandate wasn't he?

That is why I was suprised to see the biden adm and the mainstream media in general making such a bid deal about the delta variant. If the big media outlets at their side, and the opposition discredited after being blamed for all the covid woes, it would be easy for the white House to treat these new covid variants as just a lesser coof and make sure everything is A-ok and life is back to normal, and the true believers would say amen.

But they didn't, they made even more histerical claims, started blaming people over contamination in a country that has more than 70% of its people vaccinated, got desperate, tried to find a "win" anywhere and made what has to be the biggest political disaster of the last 20 year, and now are threatening people with a "winter of death", and now it seems the Biden adm is just lost, at everything.

And I just can't understand why they didn't go with the positive message to begin with, instead they went with panic, why? to keep power?

Half the country hate Biden and a good more know Biden and the Democrats stole the election and that a good chunk of that number tacitly made a deal with the devil where they agreed to say nothing because they wanted things to "go back to normal" and were hoping Biden would finally make good on student loan forgiveness; the way a wealthy child molester parent might buy his kid a new sports car after molesting them to keep them silent.

Handling Covid is the only thing Biden gets good polling numbers from, combined with the fact that Biden and company exploited Covid to steal the 2020 election and most likely will have to keep Covid going to do it again in 2022 and 2024 to keep power.

A positive message won't help Biden since he's starting his presidency as one of the most hated presidents since John Quincy Adams or George W Bush and can't false flag a terror attack to replicate how Bush managed to turn around his Presidency after 911. So it's fearmonger for Covid phobics as his only option.
