I'm curious as to if he is a rehab/short term admission or a long term care admission.
If it's just short term, he will be discharged if they deem him healed.
HOWEVER, if he's long term and I think he is because they are taking his tugboat, he can stay indefinitely as long as he needs care and I'm guessing it's just as much about his mental health as it is his rotted feet.
The mental health problems could keep him committed long after his feets are either cured or cut off.

Considering his history this must have been made clear to him when he was being placed there

That said, once the weather starts warming up lucas will start getting antsy and he'll start pushing to see what he can get away with again, knowing he can live in the woods, under a bridge or try at another shelter if he pushes too far

Power level, my grandmother had diabetes my dad's entire life, she was nearly 100 when she passed. Seeing her give herself her insulin shots helped prevent me from ever having a fear of needles. My grandfather pulled her liscense when I was like 6 or 7, mom and I were in the car with her, and she backed out of the garage, and instead of checking the road, she just shot straight into the road as I was screaming about cars coming. He stopped letting her cook when I was 17, because she nearly burned the house down. I'm saying this, to explain that through all that she took care of herself and her feet were never at risk. She may not have been completely aware of the world, but took care of herself. But the freak who has complete control of his faculties, well enough to know to take care of himself. But he won't. I don't know if he chooses not to because he doesn't care, or because he wants pity or something. But I don't know if it's hilarious or depressing that a woman with Deminta could take care of her feet, but the freak can't.

I don’t disagree with you, but also I didn’t think Lucas was at Mallon Place based on his physical health. It was my understanding that he was there for his mental health issues and long term inability to care for himself.

Well considering that most of us "slaves" in the "rat race" have girlfriends or wives, I'd say its a much more successful strategy than being a ragman bumcel.

Also we don't "die" if stop working. We end up having to live with our parents at best and end up on welfare in a hobo shelter sharing space with people like Lucas at worst.

It's probably both.
Lucas probably got hospitalized for the rotting feet, but the rotting feet basically let the city know their tardbux recipient couldn't take care of himself due to deeper issues.

That being said, Lucas having deeper mental issues is NOT the source or cause of his laziness.

From what I've read, diabetic sores never really heal. All you can do is alleviate them by stop eating garbage, lose fat, and don't put extra stress on yourself. Which obviously Lucas isn't doing whatsoever. This along with his MRSA and lack of hygiene. And he's had this problem for years... there's the old video with him walking around with a dead right foot.

It's not a joke that Lucas may soon be stuck in a wheelchair forever.
