I think the "written consent" part is the issue. For people from very religious backgrounds, getting an abortion is still a shameful thing, and having to put your name down and sign a paper saying you're on board with doing it, knowing that the document is now out there forever, is something that could make some women second-guess their decision. However, like I said before, the women who are most likely to hesitate because of this are latina and non-latina black women, which makes this sort of policy aimed at limiting abortion kind of self-sabotaging for Republicans in the long run. I unironically give them credit for this, they have a real moral stance on abortion and they're willing to get fucked over politically in the long run to defend it.

But.. if they arent doing it for religious reasons they are already under the supposition that everything they do is being watched, monitored, and recorded by God to be judged for anyway. Their name on a piece of paper doesn't change that. The document would be private information so it's not like their parents will find out about it. I don't see the issue here.

It's particularly rich coming from the same party that wants a federal database of every gun owner and what guns they have. Somehow making sure a women signs a document stating she agreed to the procedure (protecting the doctors from liability mind you) and all its risks is the end of the world.

You're right, but this isn't the way religious people work, most of the time. More often than not, the pressure is social, not theological. God can see all or whatever, but he can forgive you. Your religious parents might not forgive you. As for the document being private information, all it takes is one data breach to make all that public.

With Youngkin now having been sworn into office, here's a laundary list of the thingsthe GOP-controlled House of Delegates plan on doing:

• Prevent local governments from banning guns from parks and government buildings
• Cancel a planned minimum wage hike from $11 to $12 scheduled to take effect next year

• Require voters to show photo ID at voting polls
• Cut the early voting period from 45 days to 14 days
• Repeal a state law requiring school boards to do what the state says regarding transgender policies

• Get rid of the Governor's cabinet's "chief diversity officer" position that Northam created
• Rescind the K-12 school mask mandate

All in all, a decent agenda. The Democrats have a 21-19 majority in the State Senate so expect a bunch of DNC money to flow into the state's Democratic Party to ensure that they attempt to stonewall everything.
