Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

What are the fucking Dems going on about with some kind of "SEVENTEEN STATES ARE IN INSURRECTION!" shit?

Something about supposedly 17 states had Republicans that got together, assigned electoral college candidates, and all signed for Trump?

Apparently it proves that Trump and everyone right of Mao are all treasonous and should be put in jail or some shit?

yeah although in theory DeSantis could run in 2024 he's fucked if he does
FL Republicans like him but they hate the idea of him leaving early and would take it as a direct insult if he did, given him talking specifically about not doing it
normally a random governor could get away with that but the Florida Man vote is important to getting to the White House as a GOP

I still don't get where the fuck anybody gets that this is a thing, I've even heard conservative pundits talk about him as VP for Trump 2024 or an alternative to Trump

I don't think Biden's approval numbers matter much anymore, at least in the sense of getting things done. But it will be funny to watch.

What I mean with it not mattering anymore is that in politics it is all about negotiations and compromises. On tough issues you negotiate and "if you do this for me then I will do that for you" and you trade and you deal and make progress. And what makes this process work is political capital. You buy and sell agreements and favors using political capital.
That is not just about political life but covers all aspects of all forms of social groups. You compromise for a common outcome.
In a friend or family setting it is called trust but it is the exact same thing as political capital, just a different word for it,
"Bob, can you give me a ride to the grocery store? In exchange I will make it up to you and bring all the beers for the saturday game".
If the TRUST/POLITICAL CAPITAL exists then the agreement is possible. IF it doesn't then Bob will not give you a ride.

Bidens problem is he now has zero political capital. He is widely disliked and toxic. His tent-pole legislation has all completely failed.
His friends in house and senate all know that they face a really material posibility that some of them will lose their seat come the midterms.
Biden himself is so toxic by now he can not even offer "I can come and help your campaign if you do this other thing for me".
He has zero political capital and he has about zero opportunities left to create any capital. Instead, he is so toxic he is a real liability to any and all democrats that are up for election in the midterms.


If I were Biden's handlers I would probably just put a lid on it for the rest of 2022 and remove him completely from the spotlight and media.
No speeches, no interviews no nothing since anything he does will just poison his democrats congress members re-election chances.
That and then hope for the best and that the democrats will by an act of god still have majorities after the midterms.

Youngkin's only on Day 2 but he's being put to the test already. Schools in some counties, namely Arlington (but also including Fairfax, Alexandria and Henrico) have ignored his executive order and are still requiring masks. A reporter asked him how he would respond, he pointed out that he gave schools a week to react to his order and then said that Arlington isn't listening to parents. Youngkin says he'll use "every resource" to make them drop the mandate.

Here's something Biden-related. He and Jill went to a hunger relief organization in Philadelphia today and volunteered there. One of the White House's press assistants said it was "in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr., Day of Service", which sounds creepy and also suspiciously like a religious rite of atonement.

But more importantly, isn't MLK Day supported to be tomorrow and not today?
