I dont find them really "evil", but their values are totally different from what West has. Indivudality means nothing for them, while in the West till recent times it has been a fucking priority. China is not really communist anymore and they have had to introduce elements of the free market because communism doesnt work and they know it. People tolerate the government dictatorship because the government keeps them safe and your average person has it better than their parents, and that's all 99% of people want from government.

Pay attention because that second one is why the Soviet Union collapsed and why western democracies will eventually collapse.

They aren't, the US just desperately needs another scapegoat to rile up the population. If there isn't a bogeyman for Americans to rally around hating they quickly start to tear themselves apart. China is the perfect enemy for the US in the era of wokeness. On one hand China is ideologically, culturally and racially ‘different’ enough that the knuckle-dragging right-wing nativists can be mobilized against them on the basis of xenophobia and anti-communism. On the other hand, a visibly prosperous society of non-whites is a living refutation of critical race theory dogma that casts America as a "white supremacist" society and so the resentment of the black underclass and white liberals can also be mobilized against them.

Over the past thirty years the Chinese government has lifted hundreds of millions of its citizens out of poverty. I don't care if they call themselves "communist", in practice their system is closer to corporatism and in any case they're clearly doing something right.

The Republic of China lifted it's people out of poverty a lot faster and without an authoritarian AI dragnet.

China is evil because they have no moral core. Christianity never took root there. Their morality is based in confucianism, which is pretty antithetical to individual rights. That multiplied by communism means little to no acknowledgement of human dignity.

In China, the nail that stands up gets hammered down.

This is all true. What’s more, the people’s republic of China doesn’t keep track of ethnicity at all, whatever you declare is what they put in your documents. I’d guess most Han were actually other things before 1949.

What’s strange though is that this post seems to presuppose that there are nations who stayed pure and DIDNT fuck everyone who happened to be nearby. Because that has never happened, not once.

I agree that China would probably be a better place today if the nationalists had won the civil war and China didn't have to endure decades of Mao's incompetent rulership, but at least from Deng onwards China has been on pretty much the same trajectory. Mainland China today is closer to Chiang's political vision than modern Taiwan is.

This is just a really bad attempt at armchair anthropology. Christianity didn't invent the concept of human dignity, good grief. In fact the adoption of Christianity in the 4th century Roman Empire was a significant step away from classical notions of liberty, the Christian Byzantines were culturally a lot closer to Imperial China than they were to ancient Athens or Rome. The vast majority of Christian societies throughout history were feudal and extremely hierarchical. The modern west's valuing of individual rights stems from the Enlightenment and the thinking of political theorists like John Locke and Adam Smith, there's nothing inherently Christian about any of it, and it only took off within Protestant societies (which is reformist by its nature). Even today Catholic and Orthodox societies are still very collectivistic.
