Saints Row thread

Sonic's Twitter didn't get into argument threads with potential customers.
No matter how much they mismanage Sonic, I'll give credit to Sega for not getting pissy with their fans complaining about it. Hell, they even listened to feedback and delayed the movie just to make Sonic look less nightmarish, I wish more devs did that sort of thing instead of telling their fans to eat shit or arrogantly go through with "their vision".

I don't even understand Volition's cockiness when their last successful game was nearly nine years ago now.

I think Volition thinks the best way to make the game successful is to appeal to the woke crowd, which will theoretically get it pushed harder by games journos and streamers, avoiding the attack articles they'd get if the game was edgier like the old ones.

I'm sure it won't work and Volition will close in the next couple years.

But would any of that translate to decent sales numbers? AOM flopped so badly that it regularly goes on sale for $3, does Volition really think they have the brand power that Rockstar or Infinity Ward has, especially in light of them shunning the old Saints Row games? The whole thing feels like them trying to fly a plane with a damaged wing through a narrow canyon with their hands off the control stick.

I'm reminded of that one coked out architect that kept making stupid houses in California, which culminated in him building a 500 million dollar white elephant. He still postured and ooked and eeked even when facing absolute bankruptcy. I think the retards at Volition are in that same mindset and delusionally think this game will save them despite how bad their situation is.

IDK, maybe they think that making the game a political debate will make SJWs feel morally obligated to but it.

Or maybe the company had been overrun with SJWs and they genuinely believe this.

I saw some concept art of the game and it seemed like at one point the game was potentially going to be more gang themed with initiation beatings like SR1. IDK why or when it changed or if it really changed that much, because I also saw wacky art like a roller derby all girl gang, so who knows.

You mean the people with the most disposable income? They want to piss those guys off?
If there's anything that current year has taught me; it has to be that for some reason all these game/movie/TV/Comic companies think that insulting their potential customers (and oftenly, their only customers) is a good business strategy.

We are too "problematic" for them and would rather eat losses than feed us. These days the snowflakes will not want us in the same room and have EGS bankrolling the release of the game and promised them Fortnite fans will swarm in and we do hate Fornite.

So unlike AOM, they have nothing to lose from ditching us. Volition is making a play for a consumer based audience, not a fan based audience and EGS is the master of making sure consumers are satisfied at the cost of fan satisfaction

I'm kinda curious, how is AOM as a game? $3 wouldn't set me back, but it being so cheap makes me wonder if it's busted or something.

Not worth it. Very bland, pointless, and uninspired "story", open world has nothing to offer besides wasting time as you run/drive from mission to mission (the underground lairs were fun for about the first three I did, then they get repetitive), every character that wasn't originally a Saint is either boring, contrived, or SJW coping material, and it's still riddled with bugs from being pushed out the door early. The nicest thing I can say about it is Pierce's cutscene was an interesting "What If?" And if the whole game had been previous saints in an alternative universe where the Saints never existed, I think they could have done something pretty interesting.

If you have to tell me that your main character is a bad ass, then I know they're going to boring as fuck and annoying as shit.

The person who runs that Twitter has convinced me not to buy the game. I was kind of on the fence about maybe giving it a shot when it comes out.

Now I'm not going to buy it because the person running that Twitter is such an insufferable asshole.

Honestly wish they woulda just let the seires die. I would have been happier never receiving news than getting hopeful about the teasers before they released the announcement trailer. I know they'll continue milking it because it's the only semi-successful IP Volition still works, but the first two games are still among my favorite games and it sucks to see the series get the modern day Twitter treatment.

This. When Aaron Webber was at the peak of his powers he was picking fights with Jim Sterling and Mighty No. 9, not random fans. I miss those days when he was acting without SoJ approval, risking his job to give the account a little bit of Sonic's personality. Shame he devolved into just self-deprecating stuff and memes because the games that were coming out weren't good enough to back up the newfound attitude.
Glad he won a Clio running the account -- he deserved it (though not for the Shia meme he ostensibly got it for)

Slight power level, but I got to visit Volition's offices pre-AOM and I met quite a few of the people responsible for Saints Row 2. It was pre current year and overall it had a pretty chill atmosphere. Granted, they were the same people responsible for the slow decline into monkey cheese humor but at least it wasn't what we're looking at now.

They had significant layoffs after AOM flopped, and I noticed all the people there I'd added on LinkedIn suddenly switched jobs. Volition, much like many other classic studios is pretty much just a hollowed out shell. If the caliber of people left are woke ex-goons like Josh "ChipCheezum" Stinson then I'm not surprised they're going for the Twitter audience that won't end up buying the game.

That can explain the drastic shift in tone, there's not enough of the pre-AOM veterans left to voice any disagreement or have any say.

If AOM's flop hurt them that much, I honestly can't see them surviving if this Saints Row fails (unless the Epic deal acts like life support).

Didn't Jim Boone leave for a while and come back? Might be thinking of someone else, maybe I mixed it up with when Steve Jaros left, but I figured with Jim there they wouldn't make another AoM level mistake. Another game like SR3 or 4 with barely any character development and just a bunch of wacky antics, I'd be disappointed but would probably still play it since I like Pierce, Johnny, Shaundi and Kinzie. A game where I need to take out a gang because they misgendered one of my "gangs" lieutenants? Hard pass.
