Saints Row thread

We as The Saints were supposed to be the multi-ethnic ideal, the cross-culture gang that just wanted to protect the old neighborhood, blah blah, blah. And they do a good job at least in the first two games of showing that The Saints are largely misfits. Ultimately, though, you can read it as we were forced into it, but we are as big of POSs as all the rest in the end. The thing is, we are the player (or, Player) and its fun for us on the IRL side of the controller. And, ultimately, this is what made all the soft boys at Volition nervous and eager to cut the balls off the the franchise, too.
The first 3 games and the 2 DLCs for The Third that got turned into standalones were gloriously tasteless fun. Aside from the first game, I played and loved all of them, with 2 being my favorite.

I have less than zero interest in even touching Woke Row, even though I have it on two platforms as a freebie.

Starting with Saints Row 2, yes. I believe it's drop-in, drop-out and the host could enable cheats for the session. Actually, the original Saints Row had a separate co-op mode different from its successors.
1 and 2 both had a multiplayer mode, but the one from the first game kept its community long after 2 came out because they took out some fan favorite game modes and it was pretty buggy at launch. IIRC the pimp-hand was so powerful because it was part of the “Protect Tha Pimp” game mode. It mainly died off due to lack of support somewhere around the time SR:TT came out, I’m pretty sure.

I tried co-op for SR2 on the 360, problem was everyone I ended up joining was using cheat codes so I quit as fast as I could so my save wouldn't be affected.

How does save progress work for co-op? The host completes a mission, it counts for both players and vice versa?

Two co-op missions were in Saints Row. One involved moving two boxes from one end of the city to another in the middle of a riot, the other involved getting to the end of the tramak or terminal while cops tried to kill your ass. That airport level was a maze, especially in co-op when you had to reach the higher level.

I believe the pimp hand was a pickup in Saints Row 2 in the pre-game lobby session and multiplayer.

I believe if the other player had cheats you couldn’t get achievements in just that that session, but I could be wrong on that. Me and a buddy played the shit out of it back in the day but we also saved cheats until we beat the game.

It was, but in the first game it was the Pimp’s only weapon, and the players on his team would have to help him get to a certain point in a map (sectioned off Stilwater locations). In the original it was just a picture of a hand in the HUD, but in 2 they removed that game mode and made it more of a gimmick weapon represented by the foam hand we all know and love. Wish it could’ve been in The Third but all we got was a giant dildo because “hehe cocks funny”.

This is a recurring problem maybe 70% of the time I try to join a co-op game with randoms in any Saints Row game.
Beating the game and free roaming with maxed stats, infinite ammo etc. already feels like cheating so I never felt the need to use the actual cheats that flag your save. Guess the Average Joe feels differently.

I absolutely hated how duel wielding, infinite health, and infinite ammo were regulated to simple upgrades you can’t get rid of in The Third. Fucking retard decision.
