Re: all the Russia-Ukraine sperging - I think it's important to bear something in mind here, and that's that the Ukraine is literally in Russia's backyard.

Russia has every reason to see us making Ukraine a NATO member a provocation for exactly the same reasons we saw Cuba becoming a Russian ally with Russian missile bases as a provocation during the Cold War.

Nobody wins by flying troops and bombs over Moscow or DC, but Kiev is fair game.

I don't think Biden is willing to actually pull the war card though - Too weak, and too destructive to what little he has achieved. Anyone framing it as a distraction from the homefront is forgetting the fact that war makes the homefront worse, then the people start hardening and adapting.
