Mega Rad Gun Thread

Had my first range trip in several months this evening. My pistol groups were excellent, but I'm rusty with my AR. Even when shooting from the bench, I was wobbling like I have Parkinson's.
you should probably relax your deathgrip on the rifle, AR isn't going to run away. With barrel supported you can literally shoot it with a thumb and trigger fingers, just let it recoil. What matters is consistency.

With age austigmatism problem can be result of tired eyes, reading too much, reading too much in one position/distance or just being tired. You got muscles focusing your eyeballs, muscles can get tired too.

PSA 5.7 confirmed in this thread, 30-45 days out on production
FN is bringing back the Hi-power and have modernized the design slightly, 17 round mags "Improved ergonomics", "fire control", a larger ejection port and a "streamlined barrel lockup design"

Also, No Optic cut? if Langdon Tactical can do it to a Beretta 92 then FN can do it to a Hi-power, not to mention no ascessory rail.
Ohhhh, modernized Hi Power by FN. I'm onboard.
Well I managed to fire a pistol for the first time during this MLK weekend and it was a standard M1911.

I can see why it was called the man stopper and the recoil on a 230 gram bullet compared to the usual 55 gram of a 556 round along with the bang, a loud bang. I prefer using rifles over pistols after my experience with it.

Also respect to all those GIs that used it during the world wars.
The Hi-Power is just the 1911's slightly-less-hot (but still hot) younger sister. Change my mind.

When shooting from the bench, I was trying to have as many points of contact as possible. In hindsight, I guess that was pulling and pushing the muzzle every which way. And using the foregrip as a monopod is just like having it on a hinge.

I had my contacts in, but I am due for an eye appointment.

for aimed shots, you want less, and especially not push the rifle into shoulder. You will not muscle recoil, but you can make it consistent. You can also try "olympic grip" where support hand goes behind the mag with elbow resting into your chest. It's not great for quick action shots, but for well aimed shots it's far better.

Over time I went from simple near sight, to more complex austigmatism and bi-focal need, you don't just degrade your vision, degradation will get weirder.

Try the Tokarev now for comparison, completely different principle with a smaller zippier round. Can reach to 100 yards with it if so inclined. Set up some gongs and go to town.

Get a small shooting bag or improvise one with a folded up towel or something, should help a bit. I usually just use my hat so the foregrip/forend isn't directly touching a hard surface like a bench or a barricade. For aimed shots from a bench try to balance the rifle as much as possible so you just have to barely support it, then just make fine adjustments. The idea is you should be able to take your main hand off the rifle entirely and it will still remain supported, the hand that pulls the trigger should only be pulling the trigger, not also supporting the rifle.

Also why would anyone want a Hi Power when you can get a CZ?

What is everyone looking forward to at Shot Show? I'm looking forward to Kalashnikov showing off their new AK-104, and hopefully some new weapon lights/flashlights that are 18650/18350 battery friendly, along with a few other things.

I just want the Colt M5. No idea if it's at Shot though.

I didn't see anyone mention some of the most exciting news from shot, the M&P volunteer line.

Apparently Tennessee (their new HQ) is the "volunteer" state, hence the name.

Clearly these are trying to step up to compete against the Saint, but the DMR is interesting. 20" barrel, 5R rifling, and a comp, seems to almost flirt with the Recce builds everyone is creaming their pants over, kinda.

Springfield needs to offer a 18 inch or 20 inch version of the Springfield Saint Victor in 5.56 or 308.

Theyre really dragging out the marketability of gas block pic rails. If it works it works I guess. Putting a comp on a 20" is also silly, but its nice to see a big company release a 'tactical' 20" even if I have zero personal interest.

I'd be more intrigued by Kalash USA if there was a greater sample size of experiences with their guns quality. Preferably I'd love a nice parts kit AK 100 series sbr, but those aren't getting any cheaper and I ain't touching any of the PSAKs.

Yeah, I really don't understand the point of the gas blocks with pic rails at this point. It looks like they are using a knock-off BCM rail/Saint rail, just make it a low-profile gas block and add a short section of pic rail at the end of the handguard for a front sight.

Their yt comments show that a lot of people are interested in the DMR build, my guess is the LPVO/Recce crowd is reaching normies and they want their pre-built "version". Either/or, better then the M&P15 Tactical.

To me a "Reece" rifle is more along the lines of a 14.5-16" gun with a suppressor. 20" is getting to the point of being unwieldy even with a short k can. To me the increased interest in long ARs is rubberbanding from the popularity of AR pistols and (hopefully) consumers branching out from flashy bullshit. If you're not using a suppressor and don't plan to kick in doors or shot around vehicles an 18-20" 556 gun is a great all around defense, varmint, and medium game hunting gun.

I've got a Norinco SKS, it shoots great and it's fun to take out and shoot targets. I also have a IWI Jericho 914 for my pistol and a S&W model 36 .38 special that was my grandfather's gun and it eventually got passed down to me. My dad gave me a Walther PPK for my 21st birthday and I lost it in a fucking river while fishing, holster and all flew out of my pants and into the river. I spent 15 minutes in the middle of February looking for it in the cold water. I searched until my feet got too numb to feel the sharp rocks and I had to get out. I went hypothermic that day and was sad enough to cry about losing that gun. It was sentimental to me.

I used a muzzle brake to extend from 16 to 18 inches and added a bipod because it looked great in WW2 FPS on guns like the BAR. However I am surprised that Magpul's bipods extend forward rather than backward when in a resting position. However they are great for bench shooting without having to get dirty with sandbags.

I personally combine Recce and SPR in my head tbh. I think of something with a LPVO and then I naturally tell myself I'd want that on a 18" or 20" barrel. I'd assume the same people who would buy a M&P15 DMR are the same people who would NOT buy a suppressor in the first place...

From what I'v heard and seen, Kalashnikov USA is producing the same quality (if not better in some instances) as the actual Russian built Kalashnikov's.

Yeah no offense towards the PSA crowd but I'v heard their AK's are absolute dog shit. A good quality AK will last longer than I will, that's why I'm going with a KUSA.
