Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

So we have a new Totally Spies coming. I guess I would be excited if I had any expectations of it being good. Really enjoyed that show back in the day, Clover was my favorite of the main trio, and Mandy was my favorite character overall.

Wasn't that show mostly many different fetish material?

Definitely kind of been memed as that over the years. For the most part it's just a fun, silly, spy parody. At least that's what the target audience enjoyed about it. I was ten when it first came out and just enjoyed it for that, and for Clover being hot admittedly.
I didn't watch the show. I only know about it form how people talk about it having lot of fetish material. But I wouldn't be surprised if the show actually had fans. Since I am aware there's a plot to it.

It was Thomas Astruc, the show's former storyboard coordinator and creator of Miraculous Ladybug, who broke the news, BTW. He's not involved.

If Twitter posts could be rated Optimistic, this'd definitely be bombarded with them.

Yeah I somehow doubt it will be able to match the fun of the original. It's either going to be way weirder and gross or totally neutered. I doubt there will be any in-between.

Jesus, between this and X-Men ‘97, I’ve lost track of how many reboots and revivals we’ve had for this era of animation.

Concerning Totally Spies, the concept itself is fairly easy to understand and should be easy to adapt. Yet it’s the execution people get choked up on.

If they're gonna remake Totally Spies, I bet Martin Mystery will soon be sullied as well. Those French cartoons should be left as they are.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but was Oscar abused and made out to be a "cringe boomer dad" this much in the original show? Cuz if he was, it feels like it was less.....antagonistic, if that makes sense. Of course, this is most likely due to the new "woke" direction this show's taken. I mean, what better way to establish this nonsensical ladder of privilege? After all, fuck (straight) black men, right? Just let black wahmen speak for them!

Oscar was a huge butt monkey on the show and was a target of abuse by Suga Mama. It was part of the whole bumbling dad trend back then and part drawing from the creator’s own experience as a father. With that being said, it does feel kind of exaggerated here in these clips and kind of goes against the movie finale.

Personally I’m too distracted by the animation. It seems worse than show’s original animation from 20 years ago.

Wasn't Oscar implied to be a Republican? Also is this a revival or a full on reboot?

Honestly, nonsensical and woke black women, go together.

The ones I’ve seen on other threads that are into stuff like DC/MCU and Disney cartoons are idiots looking for attention and validation.

You ever stop and ask yourself, “Why was this made again?”

During production of The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius, much of DNA Animation were pitching new titles for development if the show were to end. From this, Keith Alcorn and Mike Gasaway developed "Red Acres", which would have been a CGI series about an adult astronaut who finds a planet filled with dimwitted aliens. They and Ben Gilberg pitched the idea to Nickelodeon in New York City, who loved it, but refused to greenlight it because of Nickelodeon's rules requiring the main character to be a child. They then pitched the concept to Kids WB, Cartoon Network, and Disney, yet got rejected each time. They then redeveloped their main character so that instead of focusing on an adult, they focus on Carl and Sheen from Jimmy Neutron. However, after presenting their idea, an executive for Nick said that the series shouldn't focus on Carl, just Sheen. Though it was hard for the team to fully accept, they reached a compromise by introducing an alien character who looked and acted just like Carl. After pitching the idea to Nickelodeon Animation in LA, they loved the show so much, that it was put into immediate development, with Steven Banks joining the crew to help develop the show even further.
TL;DR: It was a completely different show before executive meddling made it what it is.

In this day and age, Hollywood would be wasting money to get more CGI related material with real actors to do space movies. Most stuntmen and body doubles don’t even get half the credit these days for having to do their roles as well as they do to help provide for them on set.
