Produce is getting dire. I just dropped 2k on a hydro setup this morning so I can get some decent fucking tomatoes.

Canned goods are bad too. I usually try to keep a large supply on hand but I can't even find any full trays unless I either want to buy cans piecemeal at the grocery store or pay 50% shipping from rando online stores. Two-thirds of the selection at those online stores is sold out. As someone with a deep pantry that usually (a) buys canned foods in bulk and (b) has done so for a number of years, the situation is not good.

It feels like all of the slack has been taken out of the system and any amount of new bull shit happening is going to tip it over the edge, everywhere, at once.
You mean like 5G disrupting all air travel in the US? Isn't air shipping the only part of the system that's more or less working properly at this point? Bill Gates is making a real big push for 5G, because of course he's heavily invested in it.

In fact, there was a video on YouTube, since taken down, where Gates was "predicting" a massive cyberattack in December of 2021 that would destroy everyone's cell phones. When you realize that Bill Gates was heavily invested in the vaccine manufacturers, and that he funded the Wuhan lab that created COVID, and remember that video, and then realize that originally 5G was supposed to be out by now, it all makes sense. Whenever 5G finally gets deployed, there will be a cyberattack launched from China but paid for by Bill Gates that bricks pre-5G phones and/or infrastructure, forcing everyone to buy new 5G phones that will make Bill Gates even more billions of dollars. Personally I expect it to happen in February. But follow the announcements of 5G's rollout very carefully, because there will be massive problems whenever this goes through.

YMMV and the sample size is tiny, BUT i'm seeing price rises on amazon and in a few cases, Amazon is now twice as expensive as buying from a super market or locally.

I wonder if this is just a one-off example or if the price of shipping is biting them in the arse?
Amazon has always been far more expensive than a supermarket when it comes to food.

Is the stuff actually sold by Amazon or is it third-party? What I’ve found is anything Amazon fulfilled or direct from manufacturer is going to be MSRP or better. Third-parties on the other hand can vary wildly and often ‘pass-through’ a bad shipping price and call it ‘free shipping’.

Cut open the back of my neck while working on my roof the other day and had to go get some neosporin and basic stuff like sterile gauze and paper tape. (The cut was just shallow enough I didn't need stitches.)

Holy fuck, it cost 30 bucks just for the smallest and most basic versions of these 3 items. Even a few years ago I could have gotten it all around 10 bucks.

I'd be really worried if I was closer to retirement and saw my nest egg effectively devalued so hard by inflation. So many retirees are going to be absolutely fucked.

Last few times I've been to the grocery market they've been out of some of the meat items. Seen it before, but not across this many brands and on consecutive visits. Pre-made meatballs, chicken, and pork were all kissing or limited. Steaks were fine so I didn't have to do anything drastic.

A quick peek at flight trackers doesn't seem like that 5G story is having a widespread grounding of airplanes in the US. Airspace still looks quite populated:

Anyway, forgive the sperging. You're probably just joking around anyway. This argument triggers my spidy senses and sends me into full blown internet autism mode.

People in the thread shit talking soy

If you're so against unitasking, why is your only function being a faggot?

I'm trying to fit in with the rest of you Gayboy Berserkers.
Loving the testiness of this thread. Mention margarine shortage on Saturday and everyone’s hair-trigger goes off. Next it’s potato prep. Don’t get me wrong, it’s entertaining/funny as hell, but between informative posts, we get a lot of these slap fights from users who usually agree with each other in other threads. I think humans have a particularly strong emotional/irrational attachment to food/food-prep and differing feelings are brought to light in this thread.

I generally follow Charlie Brown’s not talking about religion, politics, and the great pumpkin man in polite company — now I’m adding margarine and unitasking tools. *yawn*

Thread is kind of a microcosm of the supply chain issues: small issues snowball bigger and it makes everyone more irritated/angry at everything (I think this thread mentioned inflation would lead to more road rage due to bad temperament permeating everything).

Well no, I would expect not, as the roll-out was delayed recently, as noted in the story itself. My point is that Slimy Billy has billions and billions of dollars invested, and international criminal schemes cooked up to further his investments, and won't let this situation continue indefinitely. The last delay was for only two weeks. This is why we need to keep a close eye on the situation.

A man's access to good french fries is an important thing. As is his choice of cooking fats. Me personally, I pefer butter. When I was a kid we only had margarine because my father was an asshole.

Every man should know how to make french fries. When there are no fries in the stores and you gotta make your own make sure you soak them taters real good after you cut them so they fry up nice and crunchy. If you don't have a deep fryer or don't want to use a lot of oil dry those bad boys off real good after you soak them, spray some oil on them, toss them in some spices and cook them in the oven, convection oven or air fryer. Just because the world is fucked doesn't mean you should be deprived of tasty crunchy fries. Limp fries suck ass.

Anybody got any recipes for homemade tendies? My supermarket has been mighty light on the frozen chicken.

I reached out to the product supply bigwigs about the possibility of moving some shit around to help my portion of the kingdom. No such luck. Apparently other sites are in even worse shape. They expect things to get even worse. Least they could have done is lied and said "two more months to flatten the curve." Holy fuck I gotta find another job. I can count the number of days off I've had the past two years on one hand. We are below 50% fill rate right now. I don't see the point in wasting another year to a losing cause.

Get a load of herbs/spices and toast them in a pan before tossing the fries with them. Heating up herbs and spices releases the aroma oils and fats inside them that give them flavour, making them much more intense

I'm just here to get info and share various cooking tips and tricks I have. Like those take-a-penny-leave-a-penny jars you used to see at gas stations.

Anything in particular or just something bare bone? Double coating chicken pieces is a good way to get them crispy. You can also try frying them once, coat them in batter again, and then frying them the rest of the way. You waxed poetically about crispy potatoes so I'm guessing you're after a crunch.

A basic wet batter just needs flour, baking powder, milk and/or water (you want one cup flour to one cup liquid), and then seasoning (salt and pepper are basic bitch but they are foolproof). You could also do flour, egg wash, and then coat the chicken pieces in panko. It not only fries nicely but throwing it in the oven works just as good.

Soak chicken breast in buttermilk for a few hours to overnight. Get flour, beaten egg and some milk, and breadcrumbs. Cut breasts into tendies. Put the seasoning you want in the flour. Dip tendies into flour, then egg wash, then breadcrumbs. Refrigerate for a bit if you want to be sure it'll stick together. Cook them how you want to. If you feel lazy you can just ignore the breading part and put corn starch or potato starch in a bag and coat the tendies. Let the starch soak up the buttermilk if you do it this way. This is also how I make chicken nuggets, but I use ground chicken for that.

You can bread them in grated parmesan cheese for an extra treat. Keto tards use crushed pork rinds and I have developed a taste for that too.

My go to trick is Beef Hearts. They're ~.75 - 1 pound and cost about $1.70 a pound at the local Winco. I cube them up and use them in curry, chili, stews, and spaghetti. One is usually enough for a dish, maybe two if I have two smaller ones. Have a good stockpile of them in my freezer.

I'm sure there's something weird about the meat compared to like, steak, but for what I'm using it for, it's the same as stew meat and the like for a lot less.

I agree with your statement in general but anchovies specifically cost a hell of a lot less (in bulk at least) than buying them a can at a time at the store.
Staying with the thread topic our store has had to turn off certain products because the supply truck will randomly not have items even though we ordered them. This in turn is angering customers. Food service has always been a thankless job but I've never seen customers act so asshole-ish in my life. Please remember to be patient and kind to the people that serve you food, it's a privilege not a right.

Yeah, apparently customers being assholes has become quite the common trope nowadays due to the supply chain being fucked up.

EDIT: I have read an article that talks about this, can't find it tho.
