Every time Chantal calls Nader controlling, I think this is what she is referring to. He expects her at his place at a certain time, and when said time arrives, she's sitting around at home, or still asleep, or has "changed her mind." When she doesn't show up, he is furious. (His fault for relying on someone he knows is a complete flake.) Then she gets mad and projects her bad behavior (thoughtless, rude, unreliable) onto him (mean, controlling). She behaves like she has no idea how disrespectful it is to blow off a commitment and leave someone hanging like their time has no value. She talks big with her VIBs, but she doesn't have the guts to tell him up front that she'll get there when she gets there and if he doesn't like it, too bad.
I hope she does go to Jamaica. She already runs on
Jamaican time, so she'll fit right in.
Has she ever given any other examples of Nader being controlling that don't involve her flaking out on him? I don't think the thing about living with Peetz is controlling. To me that's just communicating the boundaries of what he is and isn't comfortable with in a relationship, and she can take it or leave it. She just feels backed into a corner by it because Peetz is her insurance policy. She can't cut him loose, she needs to keep him on a string, so she can go back to him in between disastrous relationships and never has to be completely alone. He will always drop everything and run to support her. He will always be the free cat sitter while she is slowly moving herself into some new guy's home and treating it like her second residence.
