I always thought VO stands for "voice over", though I could be wrong. The main camera person behind animal videos on youtube, wild or captive, are referred to as the VO. I'm both shocked and not shocked that fucking video is still on youtube.
Interesting comment. Why do they want a VO in Cambodia or Vietnam, as opposed to Indonesia? Thinking on it, it could be because they want torture videos of pigtail macaques. They seem to get more hate than the longtailed macaques. In one of the Discord channels, a monkey hater lamented on the lack of pigtails in torture videos..

VO stands for video operator . It's what the Cambodians who filmed footage of these animals at Ankor Wat were originally referred to and It's now a stand in for basically anyone who supplies monkey footage. The reason they're interested in Cambodian or Vietnames VO's is due to the fact that only the Indonesians offer paid torture and snuff videos. But on the flipside the Indonesians only have access to long tailed macaques, which are pretty resilient, even the babies. The Cambodians however have access to pigtailed macaques which are significantly cuter and more sensitive as babies, so they respond to physical and psychological trauma with a lot more intensity which is why they're favored by these freaks. Same goes for stump tailed macaques due to their very prominent genitalia . The channels 'Alien Monkey' and 'baby monkey Maya' had racked up millions of views on videos where they openly molested the stump tails in their care for an enthusiastic audience. The criminologist that I interviewed in one of those videos let me in on something that really put things into perspective for me. Often, pedos that get out of jail that are barred from going anywhere near kids end up abusing animals. Not because they're attracted to them, but because they're attracted to the power dynamic. Having absolute control over something that's completely helpless and incapable of fighting back is what gets them off. So the idea is that a lot of zoosadists aren't attracted to animals specifically, but they go with them due to convenience. They bring less heat than assaulting a child. And monkeys, especially the babies are at a perfect intersection for these kinds of sadists. They're animals so they bring less heat, but they have a face capable of complex expressions. You can clearly see emotions like terror, panic and confusion on their face, which is why the videos are always angled to make sure their face is in shot as much as possible and the community gets mad when they miss it. Same goes for their ability to scream, unlike most animals. And lastly their trusting nature as babies, they will return to their abuser over and over because it's the only source of comfort they know and will try to cuddle with them, only to be beaten and tortured again, which plays into the fantasy of the violation of trust that is common in hurtcore. Make of that what you will. But to me, the most surprising thing to me is how many of these people are middle aged women.

I didn't even imagine that about pedos, that's incredibly creepy.
I think what helped me understand more is when you clarified that it's not sexual/physical attraction to the monkeys per se, but the dynamic itself (whereas with kids............ it unfortunately seems to be both...). The fact that baby monkeys being so emotive is such a huge pull also makes sense: throw in the uncanny valley (aka humanlike expressions but being unhuman enough that it doesn't throw away the people who aren't into Cartel-tier violence) and you have a strong concoction. This is why seemingly so many monkey haters love other animals.
I mean of course things are case by case, I remember seeing one commentator claiming to have loved monkeys until watching vids where wild monkeys are messing with feral kittens and dogs and whatnot. Some of these middle aged women monkey haters often claim a similar rationale for why they hate them so, but I often dismiss it as post-hoc justification.
It's also telling that species matters a lot. I wouldn't have been able to make the connection that certain macaques are more desirable than others (considering I don't even know the differences between macaques). But many of the haters don't really feel the same towards, say, marmosets, bonobos, and other primates like chimps. Maybe because these others look distinctly more Animal and thus cuter and whatnot. I know that they like to project human rationale to macaques concerning greed, competence (even though these are babies at the weaning stage), absolutely freaking out at being denied comfort/food more than tail dragging, etc. Of course, I'm pretty certain many haters just hate animals in general too. I recall seeing a VO just literally throw his pups too (the same pup would then go on to bite monkeys like a chew toy).
I used to hold hate in my heart for mice and rats that formed when I was young due to an infestation + other circumstances at the time. It took me nearly 15 years to let go of it... now I don't particularly care to see the little buggers hurt. Heck, I could even admit mice are cute lol.
I feel something similar for some of these monkeys that I used to feel for mice, but there's no clear origin or "justification" (and no, being a pest overseas or even just being a pest in and of itself isn't justification - I'm not living in Florida or in SEA. Rabbits and squirrels are pests in some areas, but they're still awfully cute regardless! I hate roaches and mosquitoes with a passion, but I'm not joining some roach-torture trading community). It's really irrational but strong.
When I first saw Harlow's monkeys (probably in high school psychology?), I thought "man that's messed up" but also felt a sense of "I don't know why but it is morbidly fun to watch the monkeys". It didn't prompt me to go seeking monkey torture videos though lol. Many many years later, I saw Daniela's tail dragging randomly (I think I saw a baby monkey freaking out at its mom in IG Explore since I follow animal pages and I wanted to see more monkey behavior on Youtube) and thought "man, that screeching is pretty annoying; this monkey is getting its comeuppance." I think that was the catalyst for diving into this rabbit hole.
Maybe I need to rewatch your two vids.

The fact that they blatantly spell out "No Power" in the description tells you all you need to know about why these people get off on this. Most non-consensual paraphilias are like that, though, so not really surprising that zoosadists are into the same core aspect. It's not the actual sexual angle that these predators get off on so much as the feeling of lording their power over another creature. It's why rapists don't go after people they perceive as being more physically powerful than they are, and why you probably won't see many hominids like chimps or bonobos--and certainly not adult ones--in these types of vids, even if they were accessible.
Mild powerlevel but as part of my education I had to do an exotics rotation and spent some time in a facility working around chimpanzees. Unless you're Jane Goodall, a chimp in good health will absolutely fuck a human being UP if they try to mess with it. Even the ones I worked with who had been former pets and were hand-reared by humans weren't 100% tame or trusting of just anyone, so if you wanted to keep your limbs intact you always treated all of them with the same respect you'd show any wild animal. Because in a fair fight, the chimp's absolutely gonna win.
These people select smaller simians--and baby ones at that--because they don't want to have to fight that hard to get off, and not just because that involves more effort. It's because it would actively negate the whole point for them. And it's also why it's not a far leap for these people to go from garden variety dogfucking or cheese pizza to the really sick hurtcore shit. They get desensitized to the softer stuff and need a harder drug.
