Worst case scenario they try to do what the Roman political elites did when they started panicking after the sudden rise of populist politicians like the Gracchi brothers who threatened their privileges, IE, change the law to discredit and remove your oponents from government offices, then kill the key leaders of the populist movement, try to blame it on organized crime or something else like an angry mob and then hope that the plebs don't notice that you were the ones that killed them.
This won't happen because the Dems are nowhere near as united or as competent as the ancient Optimates, among a billion other things, so if they try to do that they'll just fall flat on their faces.

So yah, that is done and dusted. There is literally nothing the Democrats can now do to fend off 2022. This was their last gambit, a hope that a bunch of presentations and the risks associated with making Manchin and Sinema go on record would make them change their vote. It failed.

Ah, there it is. I mined r/politics for salt regularly back during the 2016 primaries and then election and I observed that redditors get angry, yes, but there is a certain threshold where they stop being angry and start exhibiting grief and sadness instead. I'm sure everyone remembers the compilations of Hillary voters sobbing irl after Trump won, to say nothing of the outpouring of emotions onto the internet.

The last time I saw grief was when Manchin killed BBB. The levels of grief for right now might exceed that. There is obviously still some rage intermixed though.
