Sorry for being dense but isn’t his legal name James Haywood? Would this not need to be filed against his legal name in order to collect on any potential judgment?
It must be okay otherwise it would appear on a legal document.

I see WB throwing Ryan under the bus for this one. Have any of the AH people commented yet?

Rooster Teeth has more money than Ryan, so I assume they'll try to claw more out of that. Remember this is a civil suit, not a criminal one. Texas also has an unlimited homestead exemption in bankruptcy, and I imagine a large portion of Ryan's net worth is in the house.
It being a civil suit should say everything anyone needs to know about it. if this was anything of actual consequence it would be a criminal suit. I'm actually surprised you even get the anonymity of "Jane Doe" in a civil case, to be completely honest.

The anonymity likely means it's a minor.

Not necessarily, just that it's a sexual abuse claim. Adults can claim it as well. (While it could be a minor in this case, the person is almost certainly not a minor in 2022)

Other situations where you can file as John/Jane Doe include other stuff you might want to keep private, like if the suit involves you being HIV positive, or alcohol issues, etc. (Say you went to alcohol rehab and something bad happened there, so you sue the rehab clinic, but want to keep your name off the lawsuit)

RT is probably named in the case for aiding or covering for Ryan. We could see RT staff named as aiding a pedophile, a quiet payoff from WB, or the Jane Doe is a clout chasing weirdo. Its anybody's game.
There's also the fact that we can prove Ryan used the hotels paid by the company to conduct his behavior. Since he used the "company cash" for most if not all of his antics, it makes sense that they would part of it. I doubt anything would happen though, but this isn't a good look.

I also hope Laurie sees this and if she hasn't gotten out, please get out.

Unless I'm sadly mistaken, homestead exemption only applies if you've got a homestead exemption on your property. Or does that only matter for taxes?

I don't think you can get homestead exemption on non-agricultural land, can you?

For the purposes of bankruptcy, most places have an exemption on the house you live in, up to a certain cap. Thus when you declare bankruptcy you don't lose your home. In some places (like Georgia) the cap was set many years ago and now people lose their houses regularly because almost all houses are worth significantly more than the cap. (They do get to keep the equity up to the cap though, so when the house is sold they get that much back in cash.)

In Texas there is no cap. There is a cap on the land area that's exempted (10 acres urban, 100 acres rural), so if it's a large family farm you can lose most of it, but still keep a small amount of farmland. 10 acres is huge for an urban home so pretty much everyone is covered by it.

The main restriction is you have to have lived in the state for at least 40 months (this is to stop people from states with poor exemptions spending all their money on a mansion in Texas and then immediately declaring bankruptcy -- something that used to happen).

Texas also grants you an exemption for one vehicle per licensed household member, of any value. Up to two firearms are also exempt. $25k in jewelry, $50k in general possessions, etc.

Basically Texas is one of the best places in the country to go bankrupt. They let you keep a LOT of stuff. That's why it's usually not worth it to aggressively sue someone in Texas unless they are particularly wealthy. For regular people the biggest threat you can have is fucking up their credit score. My suspicion here is that they sued him mostly because it makes it look better than just suing RT by itself.

I've looked at some of the case notes that she's linked to, she does seem to handle quite a few cases involving minor however she is only presiding judge in these cases and not the actual judge handing out the sentencing so I don't think it's proof of anything, but hey, if you want to depress yourself then read some of these.

Non-lawtalker just spitballing, but hey, this thread needed some juicy developments, but if the judge does specialize in cases involving minors and she’s listed as Jane Doe.. would that potentially mean plaintiff is STILL a minor? With the implication that it’s a fresher victim OR it’s one from years back that was absurdly young. Like 14-15 years old.

This factor likely answers my question, it’s been nearly a year and a half since RT cut ties with Ryan. Factor in a year and a half of covid lockdowns before that, yeah.. this could be a thing.

I’m betting WB legal has them NDA’d out the ass over this. Nothing burger lolsuit or not.

I think if they named themselves in the case they would be opening themselves to harrassment by RT fans. Lots of fans would do anything to keep their favorite company afloat.

Personally I don't think anything major will come out of this, but it would be great to watch if anything did.

Welp, everyone grab the first season of red vs blue before their everything disappears. Did they make anything else of worth?
The first five seasons of RvB before Monty Oum ruined it with over the top anime autism and awful CGI. RWBY is a joke animation wise and I have no idea how it got a fan base at all.
