This is just the thing about all horror in general, a jumpscare is only as good as the suspense and tension that set it up.
Even a toddler can come up with a jumpscare but it takes skill to induce anxiety and dread on the audience for long enough with proper timing for a jumpscare to pay off

Having watched the mandela catalogue it just sucks ass.
The threat makes no sense.
The angel looks like it has fetal alcohol syndrome.
The monsters are not that scary and it is clearly done by someone who does not know how the real world functions.
I mean that "let me put a camera set to take photos, AWAY FROM THE ROOM WHERE I AM SUPPOSED TO TAKE PHOTOS" bit was just pure spastic nonsense.
Basically its the nu-scp of analogue horror, cliched, already done better before and boring.

I agree and disagree. Very few are willing to blend analogue horror with Christian theology. I genuinely liked how the first season had the Antichrist actively change both past and present in real-time, and mixing 80s Christian cartoons with weird stuff. But googly-eyes Antichrist is goofy. The guy already had a shadow version of an angel that actively mirrored (probably unintentionally) Eastern Christian depictions of Satan. That would've worked much better than bug-eyed Satan.

I will add that they sent one guy to take pictures of a crime scene. One fucking guy. And when he got scared they just say "oh, ok, go home". Fuck, if only any job I've had allowed this shit.
And it could be done way better, even if they indeed sent one fucking guy to film it. He goes into that room, has chills down his spine, but proceeds, takes pictures of that room, which seem to be fine, however, when he comes back to the department they turn into "spectral didler shows how to play Minecraft with a rope".

I can't fathom how people can take it seriously. The first episode felt like a YTP and when the /x/ meme police sketch appeared as the intruder later on I actually laughed. The core concept might be interesting but the presentation leaves a lot to be desired.
One thing that really bothers me is that I can't buy it as actual found tapes. Too much of the imagery is recognizable and not time period appropriate. For instance here is an image from Intruder.
All clearly stock images, my immersion is ruined and there is no way an 80s era VHS would look like this, same with all the stock figures of people. Even the ones which are supposed to be from more modern times don't give off an authentic vibe of actual captured footage.
Maybe Gemini Home Entertainment set my expectations too high for analog horror but nothing about this is scary or well-done. It seems very amateurish by comparison and doesn't feel like the creator has a good grasp of what the aesthetic he is going for actually entails.

It's basically the SCP of analogue horror, great idea, fucking shitty presentation.
Like, the idea of the antichrist manipulating time and space to let demons run rampant on a specific part of america just so he increase his power is pretty fun.
But like make it interesting, this is just shitty jumpscares that make no sense.
The idea of corrupted tapes is ok-ish but the fact that shady government agencies just let corrupted tapes run rampant in their departments is fucking retarded.
Alexkansas does it a hundred times better (especially the subplot of the us being in a hidden civil war, because you can't bring down a statue with a AR15 ((maybe a 1911)))
Methink if he wants to keep this goofy ass asthetic he should go all in and go for /k/ommandos raping the skinwalking demons with cosmoline and /fit/izens punching ghosts.
Otherwise its just fucking goofy.
And the fanarts are fucking worse.
