"angry" gamers/critics

I will say this week's episode he did a skit that actually made me laugh (not the thing with Bluth staring at him, another skit).

True, but if that were the case, it'd have been easier to not have bought the studio in the first place. Or even start Demo Reel.

If he were honest, he'd just stick to making more money as NC and never go back on that.

Out of curiosity, are any of the parents of these angry critic types (CA or otherwise) aware of their “job”?

Imagine quitting a dead end job one day, and explaining to your parents that you bought a studio the next. Also, almost all the money that went towards buying the studio came from total strangers on the Internet that watched you scream into a camera make bad jokes and weird faces. It's like the very essence of “wut”.

How could they not be? Some of these people have been doing this shit for years as their sole source of income.

Considering the average age of the CA reviewers (like, late twenties/ early thirties to early forties?) I figured that their parents probably aren't net savvy and couldn't grasp just how in the world you could un-ironically sperg out and upload the results onto YouTube and get paid, for example, $10,000 a year. I probably worded my initial post weirdly, sorry about that.

Also, Internet fame is fickle as fuck and it never hurts to have backup plans. For instance, James Rolfe has experience as a director /actor/writer/whatever, he can conceivably get a job in a more conventional area of the entertainment industry once the AVGN well dries up.

I think Linkara's dad showed up in one of his videos.

The Nostalgia Critic's parents appeared in one of his Christmas reviews (something about a magic Christmas tree), and they seem like nice, normal people. It was actually kind of sweet.

Oh, yeah, I don't doubt it. Wasn't trying to call the parents bad people or anything, but it's just odd that the parents were obsentibly cool with a job that runs on viewership numbers.

Apparently Lindsey the Nostalgia Chick has an actual job doing video editing for a TV channel, so kudos to her.

I'm sure they're as concerned as any other parent would be. They might not 100% get it but are probably happy their kid is getting paid for something they enjoy. No doubt they urge their kids to have a back up plan though. Now whether they do or not is up to them.

Or because having a proper job is a the sensible thing to do. Not for nothing but no matter how liberal or conservative you are having a real job instead of relying on silly internet shit is smart.

I know Doug's father helps out with his reviews, he'll make an appearance, do costume and props, and music.

I know Brad's mom has appeared in a few of his vids, mainly midnight screenings, and Brad tries.

Considering a lot of the reviewers are filmmakers (some more than others) and have video editing skills, they already have abilities and experience that can help them in the long run.

In terms of some of the critics, depending on their focus, they have a never ending supply of things to review. There's always going to be bad video games, comics, cartoons, porn, exploitation films to review. Some of the reviewers made smart choices in picking their focus. With Doug, his main focus is nostalgia (I hate that word) stuff he grew up with and also movies that Ebert gave bad reviews to.

But for Doug that well is drying up. More and more he's focusing on recent films (if his Jurassic World and Pixels reviews are any indication). As well I think there is stuff that he won't touch, stuff that would be nostalgic (he used to do Raiders of the Story Arc where he'd review the first few episodes of a TV series he grew up with--which were honestly funny, even though he liked the shows he would make fun of them) but he hasn't gone back to it. There's only so much of nostalgic things to review and while there are recent bad movies to review those are fresh in our minds.

The thing is there isn't less nostalgic stuff to review. Lets say he stuck to his 10 years old requirement (I think it was). Bad movies include, but not limited to...

The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D
Aeon Flux
Bewitched
Boogeyman
The Cave
Chicken Little
CHarlie & The Chocolate Factory
The Crow: Wicked Prayer
Cry_Wolf
Cruel World
Cursed
Doom
Dukes of Hazard
Elektra
Fantastic Four
The Fog
Get Rich or Die Trying
Herbie: Fully Loaded
Hide and Seek
Hoodwinked

That's 20 bad movies which is 5 months of movies at one a week and I'm only at the letter H . If you wanted more nostalgic fare there is even more material. At this point there are over 100 Disney Channel original movies, 27 Nickelodeon Studios movies and countless cartoons and lord knows how many kids shows. Point being that it's more likely dude goes after newer stuff for views/laziness which is fare. Hell kudos for having a brand, as damaged as it is, in the Nostalgia Critic to use to review these movies. But a lack of old material? That's just not the case.

The sad thing is, why doesn't he do it?
