Yeah but that was a hockey riot, which is practically tradition when one's team loses the playoffs. I was at Vaughan Mills yesterday, and I honestly never felt like it was going to devolve into something violent. It was nothing but smiles and overwhelming positivity all around, and there were tons of families with young children in attendance. If anything I imagine that this is what it was like when Terry Fox was doing his cross country marathon. In spite of all the regionalism and petty internal squabbles (East Canada vs West Canada, ROC vs Quebec etc.), Terry became a symbol for a cause that all Canadians could rally behind.
