So uhhh... :story:

Look, NATO is not going to send out a public release saying "we got cucked by Putin and we're abandoning our open door policy."

That's speculation and we can sperg ad noseum, may be create another thread about theories etc. I am not interested in going too deep into lizard people and flat earth theories.

The official statements are in public domain. The ultimatum was public, so was NATO's response. That equates in publicly Vlad getting dicked on his ambitions. If NATO secretly put some honey on their dick for lubrication, whatever, but that's not public perception. Let's try to stick to facts we can find in public domain to keep this thread on topic.

For tax raise for yet another 5-10% and basic needs and other stuff to get even more expensive because of new territories? No thank you kindly, I'd rather pass. But of course, who's gonna askin'.

Worked mint with Crimea. Putin's ratings were up, enthusiasm was great, reality settled many years later.

The nice thing about replacing one dictator with another, entire framework and infrastructure is already in place, you just replace Lukashenko's portrait with Putin's and you are done!

NATO has been saying the same shit for 30 years now, that Russia can't dictate their terms, blah blah blah. Yet in 30 years neither Ukraine nor Georgia did not get a single step closer to being in NATO.

Have you considered that what NATO is publicly saying and what NATO is actually doing are entirely separate things?

They think huwite supremacists infantry/artillery/mobile cav men they are working on kicking out are going to step up to the plate? Please don't make me laugh this hard, I just had dinner.
Well yeah, those guys will go to war in Ukraine if they’re paid to, just like you’ll roll your eyes at HR bullshit but still show up to work every day. Fighting and possibly dying in stupid doomed wars on behalf of globohomo is literally what they signed up for.

So were Putin's statements about how Russia isn't going to invade Ukraine, but we're past considering that as truth, aren't we?

If you want to hear something more schizo, my bet is that all the supplying of weapons to Ukraine from both Western and Russian sides is an attempt at making Ukraine a permanent hot spot with never-resolvable territorial issues. This would satisfy Russians as Ukraine won't ever be able to join NATO, this will satisfy NATO as Russian zone of influence won't expand. This theory would explain well the wildly different behaviors between the countries, especially Zelensky's strange hesitance and denial of the threat.

If you're Finnish you're probably taking weekly trips to St. Petersburg for some culture and cheap vodka.

Oh yeah, and look, Germany is trolling.

I thought Ukraine had enough of these stockpiled...

Looks like I'm not the only one who made that connection.

This is a post by the wife of the Ukrainian ambassador to Germany, complaining about Germany seconding them 5000 second-hand helmets. And then you ask how NATO is setting you up to fail when they are also sending you equipment...

Nah, they're just making the obvious connection between "Germany" and "second-hand helmets." Same joke I made earlier. Really they probably just sent some almost-expired NATO kevlar shit (yes, body armor has an expiry date). Although the krauts do still use Stahlhelms for firefighters.

Edit: Hell, seeing Ukrainian militias in pickelhaubes would still be less bizarre than seeing Iraqi troops rocking Darth Vader helmets. Remember these?

Here is the problem:

Joining Nato is a process.

Russia fueling separatists prevents them from ever joining NATO

**RUSSIA** and **SENIOR LEADERS AT NATO** know this.

Nato teases "maybe we will let them join IDK" as a negotiation gambit to get Russia to stop fueling seperatists.

Here is the real issue at hand.

Nato Membership has been used for many eastern/central European states as a precursor to joining the EU.

Putin isn't trying to keep Ukraine and Georgia out of Nato because he thinks he is going to war with Nato.

He doesn't want Ukranian and Georgian businessmen to become part of the business culture in the EU as that will ultimately have a corrosive effect on how business is done in Russia.

Creating areas of territorial dispute isn't schizo at all, it's a pretty well excepted theory, especially considering that three border states: Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine have them who also are most active in trying to get away from Vlad's embraces.

Darth vader helmets were on the elite Iraqi unit, not some civil defense militia.

If I was Ukraine I would ask for old WW1 or 2 equipment and sell it to history buffs, then use the funds to buy the equipment I really need.

lol, you are late to the party. Actually Ukraine used to have most of the WWII spoils. The key word here "used to". Most deactivated shit came from Ukraine.

They still have capacity to breed enough nuclear shit if they want to, but they won't.

There's no shortage of WW2 equipment stashed or lost in Ukraine. You can literally dig up caches of weapons in the woods.

The state of most of those things is shit though, ask me how I know. Actually Russian marshlands have far better conditions for preservation. A lot of good digs there.

True, but history buffs are also really anal about the quality of the equipment. I'll like to think anything Germany has is still in factory condition compared to the stuff you can dig up in Ukraine.

Out of sheer curiosity, would those even work safely, once cleaned?
Some things are in better condition than others. If preserved in a sealed drum filled with grease it will be brand spanking new once you clean it off, doesn't matter whether it sat in a German warehouse for 70 years or in a Ukrainian ditch.

This grain looks to be in good condition, even. Not sure why they were hiding grain when everyone was starving, but the reason is probably lost to time.

Ding ding ding, we've got a winner!
