Prime Minister Justin Trudeau could make a statement on Monday about the demonstration taking place in front of Parliament in Ottawa, three days after the first trucks arrived.
A source from the government told Agence QMI that if Mr. Trudeau intends to ("probably" wow) speak, it is unknown “what form” his statement would take due to the volatility of the situation on Parliament Hill.
It would be the Prime Minister's first public appearance since the protest began.
On Saturday, Justin Trudeau and his family were moved from their residence to a secret location as a precautionary measure.
The Prime Minister's daily itinerary, which usually names the cities that are part of his trips, exceptionally displayed "National Capital Region" on Sunday.
According to Geneviève Tellier, a political scientist at the University of Ottawa, if Justin Trudeau is to speak, “it will be to address the rest of Canada, Canadians who are vaccinated and those who scratch their heads while watching television”. Attempting to address the protesters would be an exercise in futility for the Prime Minister.
