The Dhjene et al. study from 2011 shows a significantly increased risk of suicide after reassignment compared to the gen pop, which suggest that at best transitioning isn't effective at removing risk and at worst it may increase it. It's corroborated by Wiepjes et al. from 2020. Really important to note that when studies find benefits from transition treatment, it's always in studies involving self-reported surveys (i.e. a really inaccurate way to measure outcomes when fucking dying is the important metric), while objective population-level data tends to show that transitioning does not do what advocates say i.e. it doesn't actually stop them killing themselves. Parents don't know this.

Here you go, pre-op rate of 19.2% and post-op rate of 23.1% based on a census of Danish transsexuals. The authors state that the increase is "not statistically significant" but that is probably due to how statistical inference works - their default assumption was that SRS had no change on suicidality and only data which was extremely difficult to reconcile with that (normally 5% chance or less of the difference being due to statistical noise) would change their conclusions. Notice the trickery in what I just said, if their hypothesis had been "SRS reduces suicidality by X%" they would have had to reject it while they would have had to accept a hypothesis of "SRS increases suicidality", but picking the default (null) hypothesis they did lets them sidestep that.

I would also argue that if SRS has objectively no benefit then it should not be covered - there are plenty of aesthetic procedures with no medical benefit but this is the only one that insurance will pay for.
