I have no idea where the vtuber thing came from, it's just exploded. They make the guys in 4chan's kpop general, look like rank amateurs.

Why are they seemingly getting contracts with Microsoft and stuff? I'm just wondering where all this corporate support is coming from, and why.

Well, you just answered your own question. The corporate support is coming from Microsoft, and pretty much any other company that wants to use a popular character to sell a product. It's just another form of hiring Michael Jackson to sell Pepsi in Super Bowl commercials. Nothing really new about it at all.

I'm betting most streamers are still making most of their income off of Superchats and Twitch subscriptions and the like, though, even at the big agencies.

I'm wondering how such big companies are suddenly jumping on a relatively new bandwagon like this though. I hear of big streamers like Ninja getting these kinds of deals. But it's like this came out of nowhere. I feel like theres a concerted push from corporation on this.

Xbox barely sells well in Japan. Hiring somewhat popular streamers from Japan who both speak Japanese and are under the guise of a popular and massive Japanese entertainment corporation and you have your reason why Microsoft is dumping money for Japanese Vtubers,

I mean logically it makes sense, it's a similar way to the J-Idol, K-Idol, system works. Where instead of trying to find a broad general audience who casually spends money, you lean hard into a smaller hardcore audience that spends massively.

It's the market explosion and the enthusiasm from corporations that floors me. Hold old exactly is the idea of vtubers?

Kizuna Ai in November of 2016 is generally considered to be the first vtuber, ambiguous predecessors notwithstanding.

The most popular vtubers are usually corporate ones from Hololive or Nijisanji, thus the corporate gigs. Besides Xbox gamepass, they have shilled for various gaming and weeb stuff like being the brand ambassador for Tales of Arise, doing ads for Nissin curry instant noodles, promoted a JP liquor store and had their own limited sake sets, promoting and being in various cell phone gacha games, singing an official anime ending, Book Walker manga and light novel streams, and one of the EN girls has an official voice pack in Paladins (lol dead game). There are probably more.

Edit: It's also not exactly out of nowhere, in 2020 Sony Music invested 1.9 billion yen into Ichikara who operates Nijisanji.

Vtubers are kind of appealing to streamers who don't want to show there face but have an expressive avatar, but I can't get over why so many vtubers are just generic light novel anime style characters with high voices. Like I want more creativity, why are the less generic vtubers getting shafted and ignore by the community?

Because people prefer their easily consumable waifushit. Preferably with English-speakers and/or active fansubbers.

Yeah I kind of blame hololive for making vtubers kind of stale.

Hey remember when Mother's basement tried to call vtubing a genre of anime. Like that is some tier grade weeb autism. Calling streamers with a motion tracking avatar an anime. It's like calling a commentary video with a cartoon avatar an cartoon.

I mean? I've seen a few VTubers who are goblins, some furries, robots from kids shows, and basically some bully enemies you fight in beat-em-up games. But yeah the genre has been lacking with so many VTubers being anime-related.

On February 4th, 2022. It was the Birthday of Kiwi Farms, and with that, something big came of it, which was probably the most autistic shit I've seen in a while.

Today we have seen not one, not two, not three, but four lolcows interact with each other, because of Vtubing.
On the infamous MATI stream by none other than Joshua Connor Moon, our lovely and dear leader of Kiwi Farms, included a bit where he talked about the interaction with both Pippa Pipkin and Ethan "the Gunt" Ralph, who recently got his shit kicked in in the peaceful country of Portugal.

Credit to the lovely and super awesome @Rotollo 2 for clipping this part.

Of course, talking about Vtubers is very autistic yes, however let's all start from the beginning.
Pippa decides to talk about Ethan on stream. All we have to go are these screenshots from mobile users on the hugbox.

With this in motion, the Gunt tweets this out. Archive

Pippa then decides to respond with this infamous clip.

Ralph of course being the thinned-skinned faggot that he is, decides his best approach to the situation it to none other than block the man with the voice changer.

This is when Jim comes into the fray, tweeting during the livestream. Archive

And soon he leaves two $20 super chats for her, also poking fun at Ralph.

Also some more tweets from Jim. Archive and Archive

:gunt: A crossover of 4 lolcows!:gunt:

Also with this, /pcg/ has a fit with this shit too.
Ralph getting felted by anime rabbit followed by Jim comitting act of simping is the most surreal yet hillarious thing I saw in a while.
The merge is on I guess.

(Before somebody tries to tell you this is a nothingburger, why would a big-time music guy feel the need to discord message a streamer [who they're not currently streaming with] to tell them that they're heading home?)

5ch seethe, 83000 posts/day about this
This is notable for many reasons, including spreading to JP Twitter, since Mafumafu (composer/singer) has his own brand of insane fans, Rushia's entire stream personality is (your) batshit clingy girlfriend from which she earns ridiculous superchat money from, and also because this is right on the heel of Valentine's day.

No refunds, indeed.

Isn't Rushia a femcel irl tho? Or I guess she just pretends to be one to maximise simping which is also an option.

I'll archive the video here @Cheetahman

As for my thoughts on the situation. there's no getting out of this for Rushia since that is some pretty significant evidence regarding her being in a relationship. Not only this but it doesn't help her case when she does shit like this to her fans.
I think the main difference when comparing this situation to the Calli x Connor situation is that since Calli's fans are primarily English, they don't have the same thought process and can at least let go of things like this. However Japanese culture is extremely different with their approach with things, especially with Idols dating men. Most Nips are fucking retard incels who can't really let go of slight's like this, and when said Idol also does some shit to indicate a parasocial relationship, people are bound to be retardedly outraged, but by technicality, you'd assume Rushia would try to keep her relationship as secret as possible. She overlooked something as simple as Discord notifications, and to be frank, I don't feel bad for her. You reap what you sow.
