If there's any lesson to be taken out of all of this, it's the dichotomy between Matt's reaction to getting ripped apart by Jim and Ralph's reaction to getting ripped apart by Jim. Reflection and counseling goes a long way, alcohol does not.

All Ralph had to do was his stupid show. It was so easy and he had it so good. I think Ralph genuinely suffers from BPD and the alcohol worsens it, people with BPD are also very unreasonable sadly. Jim trying to 'reason' with Ralph is pointless.
I hate to armchair but another theory is he has low self-esteem and maybe depression and he tries to mask it with his larger-than-life egomania. But considering how manipulative he is, I think it's more likely he has BPD.
