Granted this was after he dropped the Nation of Islam because their leader was an adulterous deadbeat and converted to Sunni Islam and took his Hajj to Mecca, which allowed him to see Muslims of all colors generally getting along. He believed that Islam was the key to solving racial problems.

And then the Nation of Islam wasted him for it.

I really think it is a massive stretch to claim that he became "less racist" or "mellowed out." I think the argument can be made that he reluctantly accepted Martin Luther King and the Civil Rights Movement (not even fully accepting them as true allies) due to their broader appeal and simply as a vehicle to push his own retarded brand of radicalism, which as you described was heavily influenced by Sunni Islam, and, while he never publicly called himself a socialist, after leaving the NOI he did affiliate with the Socialist Worker's Party quite a bit. He never disavowed any of his beliefs, still claiming that racial violence and black nationalism were great before he got shot primarily for being seen as a threat to Elijah Muhammad and his flunkies, which was in part due to their ideological differences but was not the only reason. And regarding their ideological differences, being racist and violent were actually the only things they could even agree on and were not the reasons for which Malcolm X left the organization. It is hard to say how his beliefs would have developed if he lived a full life because he was shot pretty soon after his trip to Mecca, but I would say he was well on his way to being the most insufferable faggot of all time.
