General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

So I first heard of MCNs trolling youtube and finding out how Smosh and other boomer youtubers failed or faded. From what I understand is that at first channels combined to create MCNs in order to create a pseudo production companys, like Defy media and Machinima. Ever since I haven't heard much.

Why would Hololive do this? I would guess it gives them leverage and legitimacy. They can talk to Youtube like a multimillion dollar entity instead of 40+ x thousand dollar creators. TBH I have no idea what they gain otherwise since the general idea is that MCNs do exactly what Hololive productions does - provide support and management.
It's mostly so that they can have another accountant streamlining who gets paid what automatically.

Cover aren't really any more or less legitimate by signing on with an MCN, and the MCN is going to want their cut of the profits too.

In other news, Pomu is about to fight Armstrong in MGR.

So how does vtubing work?

I guess there's cam software that tracks motion and translates that into movements of the avatar, along with manual controls like moving the avatar around in other ways.
Probably late, but basically yeah that's how a lot of poors do it because the required equipment is very cheap (comparatively) and runs even on a toaster tier computer. You will most commonly see it hooked to a 3D model, so if you saw some 2 view vtuber with a 3D model that spazzes out periodically, that's what's going on.

An L2D avatar (what most of Hololive and Nijisanji use) generally requires a VR rig to work, usually a headset to track facial motions and, optionally, hand and wrist bits for hand motion. More expensive, but usually looks much nicer.

In the case of Hololive specifically, I think that all the girls have their own customized setup they put together themselves.

That's how almost everyone does it. Holos and Nijis stream with an iPhone pointed towards their face capturing the movement.

No it doesn't. All they need is an iPhone and the software. Nobody is wearing VR headsets as they stream unless they are actually streaming a VR game.

That was the main gimmick of Cyberlive in the first place (outside of the $200 one on one discord session with the talents). Cyberlive always advertised how the talents owned the rights to the models
Oh, interesting. Not a bad deal then if she thinks she can have more freedom as an indie.

Hololive uses their own software but it all runs from their iPhone. I'm guessing it's something similar to VTube Studio and the app Snuffy uses. You can find VTube Studio on Steam and for $15. There is also FaceRig which is not as great but comes with some pre-made 3d avatars and some Live2D ones.

Most of the girls in Hololive (and in general Corpo) use Live2D models. Any image editing software can be used to create the model and Cubism is used to do the Rigging. There are premade models you can buy anywhere from $200-1000 or you can commission people to do it for you but it will cost anywhere from $800-2500.

I created a model but I haven't rigged it since I don't really know how to work with Cubism. Tried commissioning some chinaman on Fiverr to do it but it turned out like shit (you get what you pay for -$500). Will try again this summer actually commissioning someone reputable.
