I hate when "Thing A" happens, so to fix that, I propose doing "Thing A" as a solution.

I see some reviewers and Resetera are going off on Sifu now.

The only good AA or B games will continue to be random autism projects that get picked up by publishers. Stuff like Subnautica.Sifu is very much a AA title that people have long requested and then once it comes out they wind up hating it because it has unrefined aspects that AA games were known for.
The return to AA gaming won't happen because the people who want it look through everything in the past with rose colored glasses. Like there's a reason why we never got another Mark of Kri Game/Rise of The Kansai.
Sifu has major difficulty spikes and combat could be a bit more cohesive, it's not a bad game. But it's not going to appease the people who think they remember AA games being closer to AAA games,
I saw an article about this “controversy” on The Verge. Somehow they always manage to write about the same topics in perfect sync with each other.I see some reviewers and Resetera are going off on Sifu now.

Can confirm.later in that topic they find out that the team did indeed have chinese people consulting to ensure that everything was authentic or whatever, and now they are just bitching about grammar
I would argue that games like Mark of Kri were AAA for their time. We look at that stuff as rough around the edges, but that was gaming pre-HD period. Mark of Kri was still at the top end of what mainstream game development could produce though. The return to AA gaming won't happen because the people who want it look through everything in the past with rose colored glasses. Sure I'll jump right on that when I see a consultant on the fictional god of death worshipping tribe of the Pwonga-bonga-jonga or whatever the fuck is put into a particular world build. Or stop screaming like a banshee when people actually speak or notice a facet of a culture that isn't white. That's how you get generic european settings that they will then inevitably bitch up a storm about.View attachment 2965609
"Get consultants for your fictional tribes".
Consultants apparently aren't enough anymore, and if past threads are any indications, hirings aren't enough either.
It's worse - they have a sense of anti-humour. They don't just not get or like comedy, they actively are attempting to remove humour because it's 'problematic punching down'. They're permanent, serious Debbie Downers looking to destroy all forms of unapproved fun and laughter.ResetERA jannies have no sense of humor, and this further confirms it.
US laws are conflicting with racially based hiring. It was going to go to the Supreme Court but the lawsuit was dropped when the executive changed hands. Is it even legal to hire people with specific racial/ethnic requirements? Not sure what the laws are in wherever Sifu was made, but pretty sure that’s not legal in America.
What if a black guy applies to your game about Chinese culture? I guess he should be rejected, even if he is an expert on Chinese culture. Because he has to be Chinese (or any other East Asian, as long as he looks kinda Chinese it’s okay apparently) or it doesn’t count.

These clowns will hate you if your game lacks diversity, hate you if your diverse game lacks diverse developers, hate you if your diverse game made by diverse developers lacks the right kind of diversity (black lesbian trannies), they’ll even hate you you if you’re diverse game made by diverse developers has nothing but the right kind of diversity. These are not happy people and no amount of appeasement will change that.
Oh I've already made a vow that if I EVER get a game off the ground, every game I make will contain a sexy black girl with a huge ass. Both because there aren't enough sexy black ladies with a huge asses in videogames (trust me, I'm an expert on this) and because it would short circuit these idiots. On one hand OMG BLACK QUEEN on the other hand OH NO SHE'S HOT! How many sexy black girls have you seen running around in bikini mail? EXACTLY. That's a problem what needs solvin'!In the spirit of "no such thing as bad publicity" I think more small developers should just try to take advantage of the collective outrage from these idiots as a form of free marketing. It's not even particularly hard to come up with an idea that will rattle the cage enough to set that pack of howler monkeys off either. Just take a game set in space or in the future and add some bit about no one being transgender because all humans are tube babies created in carefully controlled environments to prevent birth defects. Just make all characters bisexual and asian or some weird shit like that in order ensure some infighting amongst the troop an enjoy the shit fit.
I have resolved that if I ever make a game, at least one character will be a black man voiced by a white guy.In the spirit of "no such thing as bad publicity" I think more small developers should just try to take advantage of the collective outrage from these idiots as a form of free marketing. Chinks do kung-fu, It's the Japs that do Karate. While I know that there is some merit in getting people with actual experience of whatever you are trying to depict I love that their demand to do so also runs contrary some of the site's own standards.
"Trust lived experiences, there's no way to replicate them and no-one who's not actually had those can fully understand them!"
"So trans women don't know what it's like to be a woman then?"
"This martial arts series need more Asian people consulting for the martial arts stuff!"
"Didn't we decide like a decade back that" all Chinese people know karate" was a dumb stereotype?"
And so on.
I'm culturally insensitive.Chinks do kung-fu, It's the Japs that do Karate.
The big one:While I know that there is some merit in getting people with actual experience of whatever you are trying to depict I love that their demand to do so also runs contrary some of the site's own standards.
