General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

I stopped watching Yu-Gi-Oh once they started playing cards on motorcycles, so I have no idea what the fuck a Dragonmaid deck is. However, Its all I see people talking about on any game related site or server I'm on when that game is brought up. Its apparently super overplayed and literally everyone is using it, which is why people seem to be upset when backseaters railroad people into playing it for the meta.
Eh im playing the game and i haven't fought that much Dragonmaid yet. Master duel atleast in gold-plat rank is infested by drytron, sky striker, tri brigade/zoo/lyri,
The best thing about the yu gi oh streams is that everyone is working on Meta thematic decks of their oshi, also Oliver has a super complicated deck that i could not read because i cant into moonrunes, but he said in english he want to play Phantom Knights
All are shit compared to chaika and yashiro yugioh streams.

Pardon if this is alarmclock but I searched the thread and couldn't find mention of this. Apparently there's going to be a vtuber-centered con this year called OffKai Expo. Their current guest list includes NijiEN1, Uruka, and a few others I haven't heard of, though how exactly they'll be "appearing" isn't clear from their site. This will be happening April 29 through May 1 at a hotel in San Jose. The cheapest ticket is $65.

The web site feels kind of short of info for an event which is rapidly approaching. Anyone heard anything else about this?

Phase Connect tweeted out Uruka's appearance.
That's all I got.

Elira, Finana, and Pomu announced their participation in that con a while ago. Haven't heard much about it since then.

The con is a vtuber-centred convention, and this will be its first time being run. Like an anime convention it'll basically be a way for vtuber fans to meet up and talk, and it'll feature stuff like an artist and merchandise alley and fan panels as well as these guest panels which will almost certainly just be the vtubers participating remotely (but maybe answering questions from the crowd or something through a moderator).

If they can get a couple thousand people that'd be a decent turnout for a new convention during Covid. I've seen anime cons survive on numbers like that (albeit tenuously) for years.

Yeah, one of my favourite autists, Yoro Yoyo participated in it last week.
Didnt mention it because I thought it was something small and local.

Mumei is doing an unarchived karaoke stream in 20 minutes

Mumei is an incredible fantastic singer. She was able to make me sad with one song then cheer me up with the next. Favorites were Mamma Mia, Bring Me To Life, I Want It That Way, Sugar We’re Going Down, Country Roads, and How To Save A Life (cried because personal relatability)

I wonder if I should not listen to that song because of relatability but I guess it’s good to be sad about the past sometimes.

Here's a truncated overview of Holostars' average/peak CCV according to Playboard. /#/ likely has more comprehensive numbers as Playboard only covers the 15 most recent streams, but they're so stagnant that I think the differences are negligible. Fun fact: Miyabi and Aruran actually lost subscribers this week.

'Class' refers to the classification Playboard gives their ccv relative to the averages of people within that subscriber bracket. It's not an exact science, but it's an indicator, and there are enough streamers in the 100-250K range to gauge a solid sample from.

SubsAVGPeakClass
Miyabi115K351684LOW
Aruran153K3552048MID
Rikka200K4331182LOW
Izuru168K4791188MID
Astel182K6111201HIGH
Roberu235K8931775MID
Tenma112K361928MID
Shien183K6473014HIGH
Oga153K5263713MID

Obviously, the three members that streamed a POV with Hololive performed the best. Only Roberu performs better than NijiJP's least-subscribed male (Harusaki Air, 97K subs, 751 average ccv). This is WITH the backdraft of Western fans that latched onto them.

@SmugPeko's sentiment is more or less in parallel with mine: There is lots of bluster about wanting Holostars to perform better, but it feels like it's largely coming from people who aren't supporting them, either. They are literally performing comparably to the Nijis who didn't 'stick to the wall' as some would put it.

I simply don't get it.
I only like Holostars collabs and really don't watch any male vtubers. The interactions between Holostars and girls is why I want them to interact with Hololive in general and other companies.

I love how people think that just because Karen streamed on her DD channel Mori is going to graduate, Keeki also came back for a stream and is active on twitter and lo and behold, Kiara is still here
Kson showed us the power of burgerland fuck it so it would not surprise me.

I'll give you a serious answer.

One, it's not infested with camwhores, since their real appearance doesn't matter. So the streamer actually thinks about how to be interesting and engaging, rather than how to show off.

Two there's little threat of someone doing a serious dox, and SWATing their house or something. Because usually nothing is visible from their actual room, unless they choose to show it.

Three, because of the above, there's a lot of competent entertainers entering v-tubing. There's actually quite a lot of money involved (the highest superchatted channels on youtube are vtubers now). So we can get people who are good at singing, talking, or whatever else doing it behind the veil of a vtuber model. Some of them are "past their prime" in the normal entertainment industry, so although they have plenty of experience, the vtuber model benefits them.

And finally: Cute Anime Girl

Bit of elaboration on the first point, clip posted by @Site User 11
My single favourite clip
That nephew was never seen again. Did the Project Winter collab influence Suisei's killing spirit or was it the other way around? Either way, parents are scary since her voice in the clip is so unnatural.

That makes sense from deciding to VTube, but what's the appeal to a content consumer?

Towa is playing Valorent Here. This game looks like a poorly ported CS GO clone - can someone tell me why it's popular?

Developed by Riot Games.

It's actually pretty fun. It came out just as Overwatch burnout was grabbing people so an ability-based team shooter scratched an itch for a lot of competitive players.

Edit: Selen just confirmed she's bought a PS2 and equipment to stream Silent Hill 2 and 3, as well as Mr. Mosquito. It also seems she somehow got perms for both the South Park RPGs, but has already played Stick of Truth.

I know this is only tangentially related, but at one time or another Keeki made a rather decent 2B cosplay.

I would bet that she will eventually cosplay Kiara IRL. The urge must be overwhelming for her...
She's already asked the chat what would they do if they met her at an anime convention. "Her" as in Kiara the Phoenix, not Keekihime, but it did sound like a question about her cosplaying her own character.
