I think the main reason you always see this shit happen is that normal working class people, even those who want serious change, are too busy working. You can only be an activist if you have nothing to occupy your working day. Same reason intellectuals always come up with bonkers theories that have nothing to do with reality, it's impossible to get experience with the real world and also be an intellectual.

That has always been a problem with left wing politics in the US. Blue collar workers tend to be socially conservative and the leaders of left wing groups tend to be the children of the elite, whom have never actually held a blue collar job.

Like no one in the DSA has ever worked a factory job. Hell, the saint of Reddit leftwing, Uncle Bernie, basically refused to work and lived with his parents for over a decade to get out of paying child support.

None of these people could possible connect to a steel worker who is worried about their wages getting destroyed by inflation and China illegally dumping massive amounts of steel on the open market. Instead, they worry about the steel worker misgendering idiots.

Have you ever noticed the overlap in Reddit troonery and wiki troonery, really social media/tech troonery in general and consumeristic bugman spending habits? these people are middle class office work types with no real world or real life social lives. I'm not sure it has to be astroturfed, especially considering troonism can be considered a social contagion and a cult, so there's likely elements of both in play in increasing troonery among mod ranks.

Since this sort of communist/socialist type has always been someone who is decently well off and/or has someone to mooch off of from the very start, they're the sort to have the free time to spend eternally online. The sense of powerlessness, envy and greed that comes from getting money for little-to-no work from a source that has a lot more money than you just exacerbates that. Austism and how it develops obsessions and comes with a limited sense of self is a good reason why these are people who are both good at simple coding and are willing to spend focus so intensely on these subjects. Being socially awkward and not having to try and push past it because you can live your social life online, there's nothing outside their little areas of interest to distract them and their online existence encourages narcissism to flourish as it's easy to stop thinking of other people as real when they're lines of text.

So you've got a bunch of autistic NEETs with loads of free time they spend online. They're selfish, spoiled and obsessed with cooming and consooming. Being obsessive, they will care more (read: spend the most time) in the online spaces they frequent, which they come to regard as their space. The magic ingredient to make them clones of each other is idpol-led trans politics. All of a sudden, these shallow, awkward, ugly men are told there's a magical cure-all for every problem they have, and it's because they were born in the wrong body. They can, in one fell swoop, blame all their problems on an external source (I was born in the wrong body and society hates me because of it!), gain a great deal of social power in their online spaces of choice (I'm trans, the most oppressed people on the planet, rather than a boring straight white man, who are the source of all oppression on the planet!), demand more money than they already have (transitioning is so expensive so contribute to my surgery GoFundMe, which I totally won't spend on toys and porn!), and force people to enable their delusions and fetishes (I'm totally a pretty catgirl uwu and if you don't actively agree with me you're evil!)

So you basically take the old neckbeard stereotype and offer them a way to fix all their problems - by being trans. These spergs who used to get bullied now have the time, inclination, technical ability (however little is required) and personality disorders that are perfect for creating a series of identical petty tyrants in programmer socks. Women are nice to them (but not nice enough, suck the girldick bigot) and everyone has to follow their rules or they get banned and branded a bigot. People with low self-esteem and a weak sense of self are already prone to joining cults, increasing their numbers; there are other types of troons, but they're not as well represented in the tranny janny community.

Tl;dr: It could be astroturfed, but doesn't need to be. 10, 20 years ago most mods were the same guy anyway, now they're just the same guy in a dress.

I think part of it is that socialists in the US, especially the ones with time for activism, are usually extremely young and I think I said this elsewhere in the thread, but socialists are also usually very nice people. Sometime in the late 90s, early 2000s, society decided that whoever could "feel the most" had the most valid feelings, as if the only valid response to having feelings was to immediately vomit them all over the public sphere and anyone who refused to do so was repressed and no longer deserving of consideration. That's why reddit is always going on about how things "make them feel sick" or how they "couldn't stop crying". Needless to say, this is not how the real world functions and if you have been getting by being an emotional vampire, the people who claim to care the most about your feelings don't care about you at all and are only pretending to relate to your (fake) pain as a stand-in for actually being a good person with empathy.

The standard redditor's way of emotionally relating to the world is damn near is BPD-level, and if we collectively decide that that's what we want to value the most in society, we deserve to be overtaken by the Chinky roach people.

A surefire way to tell a labor reform advocate from an antiwork advocate is the grounding of their ideas when talking about American labor.

Labor reformers will generally be pro unions, pro work contracts, generally evening out the playing field between employer and employee. These people recognize that work must exist because magic is not a thing. The ideas of a labor reformer are almost always based on their experiences in the work force. These are all things that work in other first world nations and would work in the US.

Antiwork advocates generally have fanciful ideas about laziness being a virtue of society or whatever, but that's word salad to the reformers word steak. The ideas of an antiwork advocate generally wouldn't work in the US, or anywhere, because we don't have the ability to make the basic requirements for living from dirt like Star Trek.

The split between labor reform and antiwork is gutting the young left in the US because the non or terminally underemployed young leftists generally favor anti work, where the early middle age liberals are more labor reform because they actually work.
