RWBY - The Hindenburg on which Rooster Teeth rests its hopes, dreams and future

Jesus they're more inept in character design than RWBY current. I said this in the SJW art and extremes thread before:

the Shape, the posture, the colors, the details, etc. all of these elements should've given you clues on what what the character is supposed to be.
Let's use V1 Weiss as an example for my point:
BlazBlue_Cross_Tag_Battle_Weiss_Schnee_Main.png
-Color is dominantly white with subtle blue gradient on the outside while bright red on the inside implies that the character is cold and uncaring on the surface but is the exact opposite once she opens up.
-Side Ponytail along with above point earlier imply that she's rebellious.
-Scar implies that she had a troubled past.
-The design of the dress and the weapon implies that she's of noble or high-class status.

The designs should reflect the character, and in RWBY's case, even more so. FRWBY's designs minus Vernal had only one thing in mind, the Sketchy Huntsmen thinking "I can do it better" and then proceeding to shit the bed. The designs do not tell us who the characters are, it's unbelievable that FRWBY managed to obliterate whatever substance the original designs had and instead go with looks that are either Utterly gaudy or Unbelievably bland. They should've tried to understand what made the first designs work and then translate them into a more mature or edgier look for V5 but nope, fuck that. Raymond and co only cares about one-upping RWBY proper in every aspect instead of putting an autistically intricate care on making an actually good webseries or anything relating to that matter.

One thing I will say is that I like Ruby's hair style. That's hardly praise but I think her ponytail is nice.

Big ups to @Random Internet Person

"Celtic suggested the Kingdom Hearts jacket."

Known bastion of character design: Testuya Nomura.

"Celtic calls the cutout a nod to the Koa Koana guards in the main show, adding that the cut site is where a lot of knee movement is, relieves anything getting in the way of movement, and allows for sweat. Mupa calls it the "knee armpit"."

It's so obnoxious how they act like they've made a "practical" design with those inane details when they miss the elephant in the room of a stealth/speed fighter like Blake wearing giant coattails she could easily trip over or get caught on something.

"Mupa enjoyed giving Vernal a unique facial design of thick eyebrows and small eyes. Mupa wanted Vernal to look pretty in an unconvential way. An offbeat sort of pretty"

I'm not sure what she means by this, Vernal is absolutely conventionally pretty. She looks like Zendaya with flowers in her hair.

"The exposed hip came from Mupa thinking that seeing undergaments would be more sexualizing, so she thought it'd be better if she left it bare and let people use their imaginations."

Then why expose the hip at all? You can't say that and then go "use your imagination as to why there's no underwear teehee!"

"Mupa's sketch in the top right corner where Vernal's hair is made of flowers is where she latched onto the character.
-Mupa's art and comics is what sold Celtic on Shiloh being Vernal's father.
-Shiloh's VA in the main show is the Va of Bakugo.
Celtic even calling [Vernal] their "daughter".
In the character design chat, there was headcanon after headcanon of what to do with Vernal and scenarios between Vernal and Raven. Even without canonized things, they had a definite feel for Vernal as things went on."

You made OC's. You created new characters to project onto to throw into your little project. They served to created soap-opera-tier drama. You doted on them and drew up little comics and imagined them in all sorts of scenarios. You changed them fundementally.

"Without mentioning her appearance or any kind of 'tomboyishness', although she didn't really act like a tomboy very much. Tell me what her personality was. Explain that to me".

You're right. Original Vernal didn't have a personality. We call this a minor character. You took a minor character, and replaced her with an OC to make her major. You didn't even give her much of a personality beyond "bratty teen" and whatever Raymond meant by "tsundere." You made another OC her father. "Shiloh" is almost an entirely new character at his core since the original guy only had one scene. Raven also had her personality shredded into something wildly inconsistent, which is impressive since she also barely had one.

"At one point, Bree suggested the idea of Salem being completely naked and acting like Gollum, but the idea was shot down pretty damn quickly."

That's a shame. It would've served well to show how Salem has rejected her own humanity. Bree was 16 at the time and had the best idea out of any of the Huntsmen. Lol.

"Celtic and Mupa were considering a lot of ideas for what being alive for thousands of years would do to somebody, and things came down to making Salem look skeletal and ghostly."

Yet still attractive!

"Mupa mentions making a comic where Junior tried to get Malachite out of bed by mentioning his henchmen making her facorite dish: clam lasagna, as well as a henchman with a Boston accent really proud of the lasagna and upset that she wouldn't eat it."

Mupa seems to think she's really funny.

"The only description of the bouncer was "a huge, muscular man". His name is Wilbur and he's based on Wilbur from Charlotte's Web. (The lines on the belt buckle read "Some Pig") The idea was from Sun."

This is probably the most useless bonus commentary I've ever heard, congrats.

"Celtic didn't want to go too far into the East Asian influence, he was resistant to it. He wanted Mistral to be its own flavor. Coffee suggested it'd make more sense to be a geisha. There's supposed to be a lot of figurines akin to a collection."

I like how Raymond keeps saying he didn't want Mistral to be too derivative of East Asia yet he only added references to Japan. Yet he's unaware that geishas aren't whores, they're professional entertainers. They're trained in the arts of conversation, dance, music, tea ceremony, etc. Their outfits tie in the back with a tight bow, meaning they need help putting it on and taking it off. Not very conducive to prostitution.

"And Blake has a good core because Bellabooty."

This joke wasn't funny in 2013, it's still not funny now.

"More talk of Ruby's room after recieving a superchat. Please kill me."

They like to go into these miniscule details like they're commentating on some masterpiece where that would actually matter, like a Kubrick film or something. Even if they put a ton of thought into these things, it doesn't matter, because it still doesn't amount to anything.

"Coffee brought up the method of cup repair (the Japanese name for it is used)."

Hah, weebs.

"JayJay loves the music by Mollie Rhymemaster, the old composer."

Ouch, still stings a little, doesn't it? That song was actually first composed in early 2019, and I repurposed it. It was originally composed in sheet music notation software then the MIDI was put in FL Studio, a software I had to learn in a matter of weeks for the sake of the project. A friend helped me out with that, thankfully. I had lyrics from way back when, but the singer Raymond suggested (a friend of his) didn't like them, so I went back and redid the whole song. She didn't like those either. So I rewrote them once more. Still said no, because it was "too hard to sing," which I didn't really get, since most of what I write is singable by myself and my mediocre range. So we never got a singer.

@Rhymes 19 I think you actually have to listen to the stream yourself to understand how hard they responded to the Vernal and Shiloh comments. I don’t think Miles even went that hard in circling the wagons when people being up Jaune being his self insert. In the end, seems both Celtic and Mupa both have accusations of making characters bigger than they really are because reasons.

Also, to anybody who reads my write up, sorry for any meltdowns. I was tired at times, and sometimes, inane shit shooting isn’t my thing, and I don’t want to feel like I’m listening to a voice chat on Discord.

Don't worry about it man. I'm sure it wasn't easy to get through. Thank you for your service.

As for their reactions, I believe it. They acted like Vernal was going to be the next Aerith.

My writefag blood is boiling and my urge to tear a hard copy of FRWBY is growing ever bigger.

Again, I like to share something that I said in SJW art and extremes:
I have no qualms with artists copying other works but they have to understand why the elements in said work, works. Afterall originality lies in the execution and not the concept, that's why Squid Game and The Platform are ever so different despite having the same message and criticism about social hierarchy and the high-class.
Raymond steals a lot from Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts and other weeb shit he's into, yet he shits the bed very hard trying to understand why elements in those works in addition to RWBY, well, work.

Where exactly is it? I don't see a link or a text anywhere?
They edited their previous longpost that only shown images.

Celtic said that jacket pic is from the site he bought it from.

He made the same mistake RWBY did, which is assuming these things are a genre and not a medium, and that these tropes just do the writing for you. He plays the game and sees Aerith die, but doesn't understand why it was so effective. Monkey see monkey do, so he writes Aerith's death into his own story, thinking, yes, this will be the same! What made Aerith's death work in 1997 was how sudden and shocking it was, how there was no sacrifice or greater purpose. It wasn't because she was cute and "shippy." It doesn't work with Vernal because she died in the original show and everything about how they treated her screams death flags. Without the shock, it feels hollow. She died for the sake of dying.

My writefag blood is boiling and my urge to tear a hard copy of FRWBY is growing ever bigger.
You have my blessing. DM if you want any details.

At this point it'll never dissipate after reading FRWBY thoroughly, I want to dive down further on his thought process when making that clusterfuck of a rewrite. @Rhymes 19 Feel like it's more appropriate to share the deets here rather than through individual DMs, the more people tearing him a new one the merrier.

I more meant that I'll continue to answer any specific questions you might have. I'd enjoy watching this be critically torn apart.

-What's going on with these splash pages is that everything that the Sketchy Huntsman pitch for a character goes into one of these sheets that are looked at by Celtic, Mupa, and Butterfly and they take bits and pieces and elements of the designs they like and are interesting before going into the process of making the final design. So each of these studies are filled with character designs.
That's just asking for generic designs though, an artist has a particular style that ties all their work together, artists do not.
-Mupa wanted to add Blake's emblem on the back of the jacket. However, Butterfly didn't understand at first that the emblem was a hole cut into the jacket showing her shirt underneath. Mupa was also worried it wouldn't be approved, but it was and the other SH liked it.
I do actually like Blake's design, it has it's own issues but overall I think it's alright.
-The cuouts on the back of the knees came from Mupa and Butterfly drawing and misunderstanding each other's sketches, but Celtic came in and liked the cutouts, so they were kept.
-Celtic calls the cutout a nod to the Koa Koana guards in the main show, adding that the cut site is where a lot of knee movement is, relieves anything getting in the way of movement, and allows for sweat. Mupa calls it the "knee armpit".
So first of all: Communication, it's a vital part of the seven P philosophy and helps to avoid screw ups like this one. Second of all that's fucking retarded, no culture in history (except for $400 designer jeans, punks, and skaters) has ever cut the knees out of their clothes. You either have pants, shorts, skirts, or some form of robe/dress that can be hiked up (hence the term "girding your loins") because having holes in your clothing is retarded. Furthermore in a blue collar job like police work or military service your knees take a pounding and need support and protection.
-Mupa has her own part of the study sheet.
Once again communication.
-It was around the design phase that Celtic set out saying that Vernal would be Raven's daughter, but the debate later turned into whether she'd by a daughter by blood or by adoption.
This is one of the first things that should have been announced since familial relationship is intrinsic to character design. Once again communication is important.
-Mupa's art and comics is what sold Celtic on Shiloh being Vernal's father.
Well you can say one thing about Celtic is that he's keeping Monty's vision alive at least. "I remember that I asked him if that was her mother's gravestone and he said yeah whatever that's cool".
-Vernal's bear motif and refrences is from the Ainu, who have a custom where if they come across a stray bear cub, they'll raise it for a year before sacrificing it in a special ceremony to send it back to the land of the gods.
-Mupa originally wanted the tribe to have Mongolian horses for mounts, and Bree suggested riding bears and Coffee mentioned the Ainu and their bear custom.
Okay, great. It's too bad that they literally had to say this though since literally nothing else about the Branwen tribe says "Ainu" and mostly just says "Lord Humongous". As far as the mounts go I'm really glad they ditched that idea for motor bandits in cludged together technicals since that's my aesthetic but if they were aiming for the Ainu they missed by a country mile since that mask is just an Ursa mask and fits in with Raven's Grimm mask.
-A difficulty was Vernal's weapon. Celtic suggested a set of sheathes that work like plate armor on a samurai down her leg, where she'd place her hilt in and a blade would come out, but it was rejected for looking busy, but the idea was rolled into her final weapon design.
I don't understand how designing a weapon for RWBY could even be difficult, just make it a melee weapon that is also a gun, it's literally that easy. We have maybe three exceptions to this throughout the entire series; Weiss, Flint, and maybe someone else I'm forgetting. Tying the weapon into armor is potentially cool since in order to attack she needs to expose herself to return fire but it would still be easy to just give her a dagger that is also a gun, or give her a gun that can sometimes be not gun. Personally I would make my weapon a chain gun that is also a flail I whip around by the ammunition belt that can fire while whipping so that I can chain my chaingun off my chainwhip while I chain combos off mooks. I would call it VP Chainy.
-Everyone in the Branwen trbe has a mask.
Where? If these masks are important to their culture why do we never see them?
-The design of the mask was Celtic wanting to have pointed ears to look intimidating since rounded ears would look like "an edgy Winnie the Pooh".
-The mask's design is based off a shaved bear whose ears look pointed with the hair shaved off. (There's a spiel about shaved bears that can be easily edited out or put behind a Patreon wall.)
So it would look like a bear then? Bears have small, rounded ears. I can understand the desire to stylize the mask but frankly a culture that venerates the strength of the bear isn't going to draw them with pointy ears since all the other actual pointy bits are the parts they're venerating.
-There was brief consideration for Vernal to use Ren's bow, but nothing really came from it.
Good. Because that would have been stupid. Although I doubt they realize that and just "didn't have time" or "couldn't work it in".
-This sheet had the most notes of any design,
-The outfit design came mostly from Coffee's art and Mupa's concepts, including some where she looks like a desperado.
-Mupa enjoyed giving Vernal a unique facial design of thick eyebrows and small eyes. Mupa wanted Vernal to look pretty in an unconvential way. An offbeat sort of pretty.
And yet they made Vernal conventionally pretty anyways. This is what we refer to as "Hollywood ugly/Hollywood Homely".
-Mupa mentions comments online suggesting that some inspiration for Vernal's design came from the Romani. Mupa says that this isn't the case, adding that if there was Romani insiration, the Branwens would have wagons and trailers instead of tents. Mupa thinks the idea of Romani came from the bandana, but that's because Raven has one.
Ask any Euro about gypsies and be amazed by the tales of the tent cities.
-The exposed hip came from Mupa thinking that seeing undergaments would be more sexualizing, so she thought it'd be better if she left it bare and let people use their imaginations.
Schroedinger's pantsu. Why do these women not understand that spats exist and that lots of women who wear skirts also wear spats underneath? Do these women not wear skirts? And why would an exposed hip be less sexualizing than just not having a sidesplit in the skirt in the first place? This is retarded. Mupa is retarded.
-Every character in FRWBY has anti-upskirt technology.
So spats?
-In early sketches, Mupa drew Vernal smoking and Celtic wasn't sure if Vernal would smoke. So Mupa added Vernal with a pipe where she smokes weed instead of tobacco. Celtic's not sure which one is worse. (There's also a long tangent about Weiss and Vernal getting into it over Vernal getting stoned that could be put behind a Patreon wall and it goes on for way too fucking long. It's just them screwing around.)
Potentially a good idea, the cigarettes not the weed, that could have further widened the divide between Vernal's culture and Weiss's, and could have served for a character growth moment where Weiss bums a smoke of Vernal. I'm glad they didn't do this since I doubt they could have made it work right, but I'm kinda sad they didn't do it since giving Vernal a bit of edge could have thrown up fewer death flags and made her less of a sweet wittwe baby that never hurt no one. Make the bandit act a bit more like a punk maybe?
-Malachite is said to be pretty simple.
-The idea was to have Malachite have something akin to her original design, but different enough to stand out, but Celtic had the idea to have it be more crude.
-Celtic's description is that she's running out of the house getting dressed, but since she's switching between two different personalites. she's getting different clothes.
-Malachite's hair is because when Melanie is control, she doesn't know how to control the arm blades, which led to the hair being partially cut on one side, something Mupa suggested.
-Celtic calls Malachite a "great ball of insanity"
Or better yet just cut the bitch out entirely especially since Malachite literally doesn't do anything in the story and a crazy character with a mental split is passe at this point.
-Butterfly hated the bottom of Malachite's dress.
-Mupa says Malachite won't have any lace in her next design.
Animation is a very different ball game from just drawing stills. Too bad it took them five seasons to realize this but better late than never.
-Mupa took a bunch of different shield designs and had Celtic and Butterfly pick the one they liked most until they had one left.
-Butterfly says it "looks majestic".
No it doesn't. It looks like shit. Maybe just make a shield like an actual shield next time. HEMA guys and armorers are serious spergs but they're helpful spergs, they'd be delighted to help you with this kinda shit.
-While designing, the idea came for the lion to have dust crystals in its eyes, meaning Lionheart will be a more effective mage. Celtic mentions how Weiss is a support character like Weiss, but he's not used to fighting solo.
Weiss isn't a support character, she's a well rounded point striker who can spec into support as needed. M&K made her a support character but V1-V3 she was not and her lack of defensive coverage shows this.
-There was talk about Lionheart's Semblance, but nothing came of it since nothing was going to be done with it.
Too bad we didn't have that same conversation about Vernal's entire character.
-There were too many artists suggestions from Mupa for her to be contained.
-One of the Mupa comics has Salem has Scary Godmother.
-Mupa thinks Salem is fun to draw in classic witch outfits.
-Salem has to character seats to account for all the notes from Mupa.
-According to Mupa, there was a struggle to figure out a theme thanks to all the things she is (witch, queen, monster, once pretended to be a goddess).
Why not just pick one thing and go with that? Salem only needs to be one thing and that's the leader of the Grimm. Make her that.
-There's a comic with a dog that Celtic is tempted to have as a scene in the future.
Great, more shit that goes nowhere.
-While going around the designs and talking about how there's different types of witches, a superchat comes in asking about the "idiots" (The Anime Guy's words) that think Shiloh and Vernal became Mupa's OCs, Celtic says they're not. To the people who talk about Vernal being changed, Celtic says, "Can you please define for me, using the rules as set forth by Red Letter Media, in his character dissection on Star Wars, define Vernal as a character, and tell me how we violated that in any way without emphasizing things." Mupa adds "without mentioning her appearance or any kind of 'tomboyishness', although she didn't really act like a tomboy very much. Tell me what her personality was. Explain that to me". (They got REALLY angry defensive at this superchat). Butterfly says that calling Vernal Mupa's OC is extremely reductive. As they were all discussing Vernal, everyone got attached to her design and followed the routes afterwards. In the character design chat, there was headcanon after headcanon of what to do with Vernal and scenarios between Vernal and Raven. Even without canonized things, they had a definite feel for Vernal as things went on. As for Shiloh, Mupa says that not much was taken from what was already there. Shiloh still creeps and harasses on Yang, but FRWBY just added another side to him when he doesn't flirt with strange women he meets in gas stations. When Mupa put her foot down on making Shiloh's father and convincing Celtic, lots of jokes was focused on Vernal. Celtic says Mupa's Shiloh comics influenced the writing for the Shiloh and he "roughly canonized" most of them. Of all the scenes, Mupa had the biggest involvement was the "Where's Vernal?" scene, which led into Shiloh standing up to Raven and going off with the tribe and leaving Raven behind, which was all Celtic. Celtic concludes Shiloh is nowhere near Shiloh's OC, and Vernal is the collective consciousness of all the Sketchy Huntsmen, with Celtic even calling her their "daughter". After the decision to leave Raven, Rock (a background character carrying a rock in a lot of Branwen tribe scenes, was voted on to be the new leader, and Shiloh isn't in charge after leaving Raven. (An hour into the stream and I feel like I've been here for much longer than that. I can see this being something you can put on Patreon easily....though the superchat aspect may affect that aspect. That or save superchats to the end like most streamers on YouTube. Or make that a seperate thing. Celtic, if you read this, EDIT YOUR FUCKING STREAMS!)
I'm not even gonna bother writing up an entire tear down of why that RLM quote is a simple thought experiment and nothing more, but the fact that their immediate response is the appeal to authority fallacy tells me that they never actually thought about this themselves and just took the midwit approach of "I can only name two character traits therefore not a character". Just because you fleshed her out a little bit in the most wallpaper paste way possible by adding a more detail visual design and making her have the personality of Bella Swan doesn't make her not a self-insert OC. As for Shiloh who gives a rat's ass? The guy isn't important and never will be and who cares about the tribe at this point? They're out of the story, they don't matter unless they return to the story at which point we will need to know who's in charge. Once again the lore fags ruin plot and character by putting them on the back burner for setting, this isn't a TTRPG and we don't need all this shit.
-Celtic says he can't wait to use this design in V7, adding that she won't show up too much in V6, and that there are a lot of V6 ideas floating around.
Between the fact that Roman's backstory is directly tied to The Apathy, Celtic's extreme discomfort with Juane's lesbian sister, and the fact that I have no idea what he's gonna do with Maria I personally cannot wait to see V6. V6 is going to be the supreme dumpster fire to end all dumpster fires, it will be a failure that qualifies as fascinating.
-Mupa likes how unassuming Salem looks in this pose. and you wouldn't see her as evil straight away from this appearance, and she's less threatening than how she looks in the main show.
Oh yeah, the bitch with porcelain white skin, black sclera, red irises, black veins all over, and porcelain white hair? Nah, she doesn't look scary threatening or demonic at all. AT ALL. Especially not with her sinister black slip dress and her black nail polish, good girls always wear black nail polish.
-Mupa's perspective is that Salem is shaped in aa way that she doesn't care about protecting her internal organs and now she goes out of her to expose her vunerable areas, like she's daring people to kill her.
That's retarded. Mupa is retarded. Why would an immortal witch even need internal organs? Why would she not be some form of magical being or lich?
-At one point, Bree suggested the idea of Salem being completely naked and acting like Gollum, but the idea was shot down pretty damn quickly.
Once again this could have been a cool idea, demonstrate the lengths to which Salem has fallen and rejected her humanity and decency, make her more inhuman. You know, kinda like what Tolkein intentionally did with Gollum?
(I'm reminded of Eda from The Owl House)
The Owl House attracts these sorts of people so I can't imagine why.
-Celtic and Mupa were considering a lot of ideas for what being alive for thousands of years would do to somebody, and things came down to making Salem look skeletal and ghostly, and Butterfly made it where her face is see through partially where you can see her skull through her facial skin.
-According to Celtic, Salem doesn't need to eat anymore.
-Mupa likes drawing Salem's glamour form.
-Mupa likes how the cape shreds in the monstrous form.
But yet you're putting her in a Coco Chanel dress. Why? She's a ghastly abomination but yet she puts in a lot of effort to hold onto her fleeting humanity through her non-monstrous form and her focus on divine elegance in her dress and mannerisms? This doesn't make any sense to me. This is retarded. Mupa and Butterfly are retarded.
-Salem is a lich, she's not anorexic.
So then i ask again why her internal organs would matter. Her dress seems less like a challenge and more like an invitation, a carnal invitation, which once again makes no sense to me for a character that has fallen so far from her own humanity that she wishes to devour the world.
-Adding gold to the color pallette was something else Mupa liked, which did a lot for Salem, and gave her a pallette of red, white, black, and yellow. Celtic pushed for the gold since he thought it was cool, and Mupa pointed out how Salem has the colors of Team RWBY.
This could have been a neat thematic choice for a mirror move villain but as it stands there is absolutely no personal or ideological connection between the two characters and so it falls apart. Red, White, Black, Yellow is a great color scheme because the colors are all striking and complimentary to one another. It's almost like Monty did that on purpose because he understood color pallets.
-Celtic mentions that he needs to have Salem rip someone's heart out, and the chat suggests Salem ripping out her own heart, and doing things like sinking her teeth into it or using blood for lipstick. Celtic mentions her heart disintegrating into Grimm goo and reforming in her body. (I think this could be another Patreon exclusive thing. That's three now.)
CRAAAAAWWWWWWWWWLLLLLIIIIIIINNNNNNNGGGGG IIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNN MMMMMMMMYYYYYYYYYYY SSSSSKKKKKKKKIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNN
-Mupa mentions making a comic where Junior tried to get Malachite out of bed by mentioning his henchmen making her facorite dish: clam lasagna, as well as a henchman with a Boston accent really proud of the lasagna and upset that she wouldn't eat it.
This is retarded. Mupa is retarded.
Celtic thinks iCharlotte's is a great name for a strip club.
This is retarded, Celtic is retarded.
-To Celtic, Charlotte's isn't a strip club, it's a gentleman's club.
You've obviously never been to one bud. They're all strip clubs. Maybe he's thinking of a Hostess Club since he's an insufferable weeabo but those don't have stripper poles.
-Celtic loves Ruby's expression, and how it matches how he wants to convey Ruby as innocent but not naive, so Runy knows where she is and she's npt supposed to be there and it's inappropriate. She's self aware. Celtic mentions others paint Ruby as a sacrreligious smart ass or a little plum fairy that knows and could do no wrong and must be protected from the world. Celtic thinks Ruby's a middle ground where she has bits and pieces of innocence, and that's a positive thing and she wants to keep it that way. Celtic says that's how you grow up.
You know what Ruby is? 15. Maybe by the time this happens she's 16. I've never taken a 15 year old to a strip club but I can imagine that the spaghetti would be otherworldly, sure teens know what sex is but being in an adult space like that tends to make them self-conscience.
-Lyubi was surprised when most people's reaction was Ruby looking at the stripper's poster (the OC of one of his friends) instead of what really went down: reacting to Roman.
There's a distinct lack of depth in that picture which doesn't help.
-In the script, the doll on the right was originally meant to be a ballerina, and Coffee added an editor's note asking for the doll to be based on a geisha. The one on the left is a simple porcelain doll.
-Celtic didn't want to go too far into the East Asian influence, he was resistant to it. He wanted Mistral to be its own flavor. Coffee suggested it'd make more sense to be a geisha. There's supposed to be a lot of figurines akin to a collection.
Ironically enough the image of a Geisha would go a long way towards backing up the earlier "Not a strip club" comment. Geisha aren't whores and (as far as I am aware) do not offer any form of sexual service, a Geisha/Hostess club would be a very interesting thing to see since that is "it's own unique flavor". Celtic, buddy, have you ever thought about that? You can take inspiration form real world peoples and then make them their own unique things within your world.
-Originally, only the face was being shown.
-There's a simple shading effect here.
-Lyubi mentions he got a similar shot in FRWBY V4.
-One person in the chat mentions he was reminded in V3 where Yang got her arm cut off.
-Lyubi does the effect of the character when reacting to getting stabbed or killed to show shit's about to get real.
Yeah the issue is that it looks hideous and the Yang shot in the show looked beautiful with that Kurosawa esque framing of the motion and the intense color pallet and striking outlines.
-Celtic mentions how gets pissed of that the main RWBY gave Adam and Cinder, two lead antagonists, the main color scheme of black and red as primary colors. (This turns into the days of theories over Adam having a color pallette like Ruby or being related to Raven. That's a fourth Patreon exclusive thing).
Two people on the same team with the same goal have the same pallet? Blasphemy.
-Coffee did the background. It was the second thing she made in Blender.
Props to her, it looks decent especially for a novice's work. Keep at it and don't let yourself plateau.
-Celtic says everyone hates the Haven hall since there's no refrences for it.
Except for, you know, the show?
-The White Fang grunts are OCs of his friends.
There's a lot of furries in that group I feel. Disgusting.
-After rendering, Aden realized the cane is too big for its handle, but Celtic says it's not that noticeable.
Why would you not notice that as you're drawing?
-To Celtic, canon RWBY goes into dark places, but they trip over themselves, and Mupa describes it as they're scared to be there in the first place. He brings up Hazel beating up Salem in V8, to wear he was bashing her face in, and Celtic was wondering if they'd show skull bits. Additionally, Celtic brings up Yang losing her arm, and the chat brings up Nora's skull showing up when Hazel is holding her down, and Celtic called it cartoony.
-Celtic says that when they have to do something gory like a dismmberment, he mentions they have to be tasteful, but he thinks that this crossed the line, but he thinks the darkness saved it. The chat thinks it's hidden enough, as well as pointing out there's no flies or rot, and the cut is clean where there's no bone or flesh exposed.
"Pot? This is Kettle, over."
-Celtic debated whether or not to take out the shot of Salem that wasn't in the script to save the reveal of Salem, but the presentation was just so good he was convinced to keep it.
-Mupa felt like her thunder was being stolen, but she wasn't bothered since it was so close to the refrence sheet.
First of all, why not wait to reveal your Big Bad? Artists be damned you are the writer and director. Direct. Tell them no. And Mupa, honey, you're retarded. Nobody is "stealing your thunder" by drawing the design, if you're going to be a diva about it go back and sit in your trailer, you aren't the only artist on this project.
-The approach to Watts (such as the orange background) was to show how he's the cunning and persuasive type, and to get into his head with mind games.
Orange=intellectual. Got it.
-This was the first time Aden had to draw water, as well as things underwater.
(What's up with Weiss's face? Does she look like Legolas to you?)
The first time he's had to draw water? Literally how in the fuck? And yeah, both of their faces look really mannish, she looks like Trunks or Vegeta.
(Why does Ruby look like a brunette in this shot?)
Why does Yang look like Android 18? Honestly though probably the artist using a filter that fucked with the color scale.
-Celtic calls dissheveled Ruby "really nice for some reason".
"Dissheveled" was what Aden was going for for Ruby after Beacon and V4. She has to be the strong one but she's tired, Yang is compressing and Weiss being the heart which isn't expected.
She doesn't look disheveled at all though.
-There's detail where Ruby has broad shoulders while Weiss is more petite thanks to their respective weapons. Celtic describes it as Ruby relying on strength while Weiss focuses more on dexterity and finesse. Mupa suggests Ruby having more upper body strength and Weiss having lower body strength. And Blake has a good core because Bellabooty.
Your weapon doesn't morph your shoulder's skeletal structure, why on god's green earth would a fencer have better lower body, and you core has nothing to do with your ass. Fucking muscle groups, how do they work?
-JayJay hated the airship fight in V5. He feels the fight was in what amounts to a UPS van and calls the airship one of the blandest and uninspired designs for an airship in media.
-JayJay served in the Australian Air Force and he worked with military cargo planes, which this airship is meant to be, which thed the airship in the main show to be something he'd come to despise.
Hate to break it you bud but that airship was a flying UPS van, that's what cargo planes are. So you took the design and just stretched it out, good job. Fucking shitcunt Aussies and their fucking shitcunt military.
-JayJay thinks you can tell a story with a set: Weiss is alone, so she's far away from the camera, in bland lighting, and the lighting is bland since Weiss is pretty sad right now.
You're right, you can.
-JayJay feels the original ship was made by people who don't know what any form of vehicle looks like due to using the kitchen sink approach to making a cockpit and there's so many buttons that some buttons can only be used by standing up and leaning over. Some mentiond include slider dials, sound mixing equipment, seats are side by side with no backrest, meaning acceleration would result in a broken neck.
You ever seen a cockpit on an aircraft? Here's a 737 for reference, motherfuckers have dials and buttons above their heads. That cockpit you designed looks pretty bare.
external-content.duckduckgo.com.jpg
Keep in mind this is a newer 737, older models had an in flight engineer who had his own instrument panel and sat behind the co pilot looking sideways at the wall of the plane.
-The keyboard is a refrence to the mixing equipment. And expanded lore was that the pilot's boyfriend is killed and he has to get a real job, but one day he's going to make it big.
Yeah man, let's sperg out over the cockpit controls but let's leave a shelf big enough for a wireless keyboard and have this skilled and experienced pilot just have a loose article flying around the cockpit, it'll be great. Also where the fuck is the guy who sits in the back seat? Why would a wide bodied aircraft have a tandem seating set up and not a side by side seating set up to make better use of the space? What the fuck is the CRM on this beast like? You know buddy, you may have interacted with military cargo aircraft but I can tell you ain't a pilot.
(More talk of Ruby's room after recieving a superchat. Please kill me. In Call of Duty: World at War)
Sorry bud, my disk is scratched. Won't read.
-Celtic says this shows how powerful Weiss can be with the ammo.
Yeah we already know Weiss is strong, she got into Beacon after all. You know there's nothing wrong with having an action scene for the sake of action right? But then again this guy unironically quoted the Plinkett reviews so he probably subscribes to the "every fight a story" mantra.
-Jayay uses Unity. He calls himself a "jank modeler" .
Accurate, Unity is great except for the memory leaks.
-Coffee helped with the posing, mainly to keep things from looking silly.
It's a tiny girl with a rapier in a dancing dress having a magic sword gun battle with a giant monster bird off of the back of an airship. She summons a magical knight out of the aether to lay a righteous smackdown on said bird as the airship goes down in flames behind her. Silly is okay.
-In regards to the physics not working, JayJay said "shut up. Rule of Cool".
See?
-Celtic loves "the jank stuff"
Just look at his writing.
-Coffee brought up the method of cup repair (the Japanese name for it is used).
But remember boys we don't want too much East Asian influence.
-Mupa did the background and Coffee did editing.
-Celtic says that this seems like something you'd see in a game engine
A BAD game engine. Like Unity.
-Neo is called "such a beautiful meme".
Don't do best girl like that.
-JayJay says "you gotta be janky to fix things".
Since JayJay loves airplanes so much I'll hit him with this one; "The superior pilot will utilize his superior judgement to avoid needing his superior skill."
-Mupa loves Neo's legs. And Coffee calls it "very anime" and tries to find the word of it.
The word is slapstick, it's a universal language.
-Floof fixed this shot to have better lighting.
-Floof did glow and explosion effects.
They look like shit.
-Spider-Man served as an inspiration, and JayJay had just watched Into the Spider-Verse.
They really are just like CRWBY, shamelessly ripping off whatever seasonal anime they were currently watching.
-This was one of the few times we can see Vernal's weapon ability: 3D print blades and flicks them.
-This shot is gravity dust, so the blade will hit like a freight train and impact would break a hole in a concrete wall.
-Mupa compares the blades to box cutters.
-This was a sceneJayJay insisted on doing.
That face looks like something from Majora's Mask. Mupa, shut the fuck up if you don't know what a Tanto is. You are retarded.
-Ren is called "a disaster" and the model is terrible.
All of those models are terrible.
-Celtic says Sun looks like a PS3 character. Coffee brings up "upgrade from PS1 to PS2". JayJay calls it "blocky"
-The Sun model was made in 30 minutes.
Sun looks like a Gamecube or a Wii character, PS3 characters look like real people, and everything on the PS3 was brown on brown on brown. Seriously that entire console generation was a race to the bottom to see how brown they could make everything.
-The models were the first things JayJay did in 3D.
It shows.

I can't go through the rest of it since it would just be me repeating everything I've already said, the basic TL;DR is that everything is fucked up and retarded and these people just kinda do shit without thinking about it. @Random Internet Person I have no idea how you do it my friend, you are an inspiration to us all.
