The cops are pissed that kids are there because it dramatically limits the amount of force they can use.

Tear gas, pepper spray, stingball grenades, and sometimes flash bangs are pretty much banned for riot control if minors are present. The last thing they want is some little leaf with burns for a flash bang or on oxygen due to CS gas.

K9s are banned as well as in a crowd the fur missile cannot differentiate between so many targets. You could use it as crowd control but the practical use of that is limited in this case.

P.S. Many riot control gasses have an ignition source to generate the fumes. The trucker convoy has people refueling by hand and gas cans everywhere. While remote the use could set of an explosion.

It's not just a solidarity thing, but as a protest, it makes the cops' job a lot harder. If they're tasked with spotting jerry can carriers, and there's one jerry can carrier every half hour, it's pretty easy to target that guy. If there are 1,000 people marching around with empty jerry cans, or fucking with cops by intentionally acting suspicious to draw police attention, only for the jerry can to be filled with water or peepeepoopoo for the cops to sniff-test, it makes enforcement a lot more difficult. They have no idea who the real fuel carriers are, which means the fuel keeps flowing.

Alright people, I'm going to explain something.

The footage you've seen in livestreams? That's where the main protests are. There are dozens upon dozens of trucks clogging up Parliament Hill.

What you don't see is, for example, the hundreds of people parked right across the bridge to Gatineau and a lot of trucks parked across the city that couldn't make it into the big protest area. The cops blocked off any real way for them to join.

So if this guy is right, he's not talking about those around Parliament Hill, he's talking about the scattered trucks all over the Ottawa metro region who parked too far away to join the protest on a regular basis (as they probably don't want to leave their vehicles alone to face bugman vandalism). The trucks on Parliament Hill will take a long time to even clear out just due to the frequent Trucks - Police Barricades - Trucks combo around Parliament Hill.

Any trucks on Parliament Hill or blocking the roads to it will not be going anywhere anytime soon.

That's a tough one to co-sign. I see where you're coming from, and I agree with your principle, but if you stipulate that emergency powers can only be active for, say, a period of 14 days, what happens if the emergency is still ongoing on day 15?

Ultimately, "emergency powers" shouldn't exist. In a significant enough situation to justify them, in the context of a legitimately free society, people will rise to the occasion without the insistence of government. Emergency due to violence? The militia should have that shit under control before the government is in a position to react. Natural disaster? Civic-minded people won't stop to consider laws before aiding each other. Economic instability? Free markets regulate themselves. As long as the government lets things take their course, the problem will work itself out. Public Health Crisis? People can sort that shit out for themselves via basic observation skills.

Emergency powers are only necessary when a government is allowed to supplant God while also being a Nanny, making the governed weak husks of what they should be. People dislike freedom because competition requires work. Too bad existence is competition against nature and entropy.
