The idea of AvE being the Vaclav Havel of the HPHT Revolution just gave me a freedom boner.

Maybe it's just cos I grew up with two sensible parents, but fuck me I cannot imagine living life like that. Is it not just normal to walk around thinking "what can I be doing to add value here? how can I make shit easier for everyone?" ?

It's a childlike mentality. As a kid mommy and daddy did everything for them and they somehow seamlessly transitioned into an adulthood where the government and the service economy do everything for them today. Parasites.

Another good idea is to immediately reinforce it once you've built it - get some cheap L-brackets and short, fat screws so you don't punch through the chipboard. Shore up all of the 90 degree corners and for Christ's sake never drag Ikea furniture, or transport it without disassembling it first. I don't even like to carry it through a house because it almost always fucks it up: the hardware can't handle shear forces.

Before you move it, stretchwrap the shit out of it. If all the joints are held in compression they tend to keep together better. Or just shitcan all the worthless beaver puke furniture when you move and buy new proper stuff.

Far as I’m concerned, that’s a benefit. IKEA furniture is great for your first 5-10 years of work before you’ve chosen to settle down, because if you decide to move cross-country for a better job, you don’t have to worry about moving all your nice furniture - you can just toss whatever doesn’t fit without feeling too bad about it, since you still got a good couple year’s of use out of it. When you’ve decided where you want to settle down for the next 20-30 years, that’s when you buy big boy furniture.

Is this why any white collar job I've had has absolutely no discipline and my bosses refuse to be critical? I worked trades and labour for a long time prior to the pandemic and holy fuck, white collar workers are ultra-sensitive. Blue collar guys will yell at you for shitty work or work ethic and then carry on, and that's valid and acceptable. Sometimes guys are too into their own ass and it's excessive, but at least he had the balls to tell me how he really feels. White collar employers view accountability as harassment it would seem, and are totally afraid of hurting the cobbled-together egos of sensitive people that can't regulate emotions and criticism.

The fragility in office spaces is ridiculous. I've regularly been completely blind to the scale of a given problem in my systems at work because everyone is too cucked to complain. Something broke a few months ago that lead to mass email spam, and it took six weeks for someone to grow the balls to say something.
