Used to be that most radiology departments could burn you a disc with your images on request. Maybe some places were more strict about requiring a reason for that, but I thought it was a pretty standard thing. They probably would have just made him sign some sort of HIPAA release & handed him the disc. Although with CD/DVD drives having gone extinct, I don't know if that's still much of a thing these days.

I'm not a brain by any means but can't he just request those? Red tape sucks but you know, stealing might hurt you in the long run if they don't have a copy of your records? I don't know how his hospital works.

2. It is what their friends do and it sounds cool so they copy them.
3. Many are speculative fiction nerds who want to roleplay IRL.
4. Unwarranted self importance.

I've seen a lot of bragging about non-compliance from the trans community. Many of them seem to view any temporary obstacle to what they want right now as some sort of tyranny, to be avoided and opposed. They frequently speak of "gatekeeping", as if that were not a legitimate duty of a doctor. This combines about as well with complex medical regimens as you'd think.
