Biden spoke yesterday and recommended everyone get boosters. Democratic governors I'm sure are panicking but the federal level is still firmly in the grasp of the branch Covidians.

The feds will always push for people to keep their vaccination up to date. Biden tweets about getting vaxxed+boosted every other day. That's not the same thing as endorsing mask mandates, vaccine passports, or restrictions on gathering, which is what's currently being pushed by Covidians in deeply blue areas. California and Oregon don't announce a lift on their mandates on the same Monday without someone up top ringing up Newsom and Brown and telling them to fall in line.

What I dont get is this.

Surely there are old congress critters that remember the 1970/1980s and how you need to fucking jack interest rates through the roof to end the cancer that is inflation.

It will fuck the stock market and employment numbers but surely its better than giving various parts of your base a real reason to hate you and not the other guy.

They would of probably preferred not doing this in an election year but at this point it doesn't seem like they have a choice and its all going to end up as a "bite the bullet" situation if they truly want to address inflation.

I'm in an in demand field but I cannot get a permanent job, only contracts and those are gone now that I refuse to vax. Making it work is hard but I'm lucky in that this oppression will last only for a few years compared to what my parents and their parents went through. This is untenable though, the same conditions led to insurrection in Iraq and the Syrian revolution.

It's not the trucker protest in Canada, it's that their internal polling is probably showing a 10+ point swing towards Republicans this November in safe Democrat districts (and even more in purple areas), so they're panicking and sending out memos to all involved governors/representatives to end the mandates ASAP. Expect Biden to announce an intent to re-open America during the State of the Union. Expect by this summer for the narrative to be that Democrats were always against mask mandates and it's through their leadership that we successfully ended the pandemic.
But after the last few years, and with trust in the mainstream media at rock bottom, I dunno if they'll be able to pull off the about-face successfully. They fucked with people's kids, parents will not easily forget that.

Depends on how many pearl-clutching Branch Covidians go along with it. People have already started clutching in response to Denmark declaring they're ending stuff.

It wouldn’t just fuck the stock market, it would obliterate it. Unlike in 1980 the stock market is now propped up by tech stocks which cannot justify their lofty valuations without cheap money. When FB, AAPL, MSFT and TSLA all drop by 80% and nuke everyone’s 401ks there is a serious chance of an uprising. That’s not even talking about the effects on the housing market. House values would plummet, all the boomers who were relying on their home equity as their retirement fund will be fucked.

It gets better, the White House also came out and all but called for the Fed to deliberately slow down the economy. Inflation is such a problem now they seem fine with having an economic crash because it's apparently the lesser of both evils. Should put into perspective just how bad the fundamentals are currently looking.
