Wow. It took me over 500 pages to formulate a response, but here it goes...
I'm loving every moment of this protest because it reveals the kind of people Trudeau, the Laurentian elite, and their media lapdogs truly are. Jonathan Kay, who ghostwrote Trudeau's book Common Ground in 2014, claimed that the Prime Minister was a truly nice guy and a patriot in an interview with True North's Candice Malcolm, but I am the opinion that Trudeau is only agreeable when things go his way. The man has the temperament of a spoiled child because he comes from the country's equivalent to an aristocracy. He went to the country's best schools--including McGill University--and never had much of a career pre-politics because he had inherited Pierre's name and wealth. He walked away from the Aga Khan, SNC-Lavalin, and WE Charity scandals with a slap on the wrist, not because he was innocent of any wrong doing, but because the Liberal Party cynically abused parliamentary procedure to avoid the consequences of their corrupt actions. The man has absolutely no concept of what life is like outside of his Ottawa/Montreal bubble.
Justin Trudeau lives in this delusion where he is this beloved statesman that is a unifying figure for the entire country when the opposite is true. The 2021 federal election essentially ended in the status quo and the only reasons why he has gotten away with acting like an egomaniacal tyrant is because the NDP's finances are in dismal shape and the former opposition leader Erin O'Toole is a limp-wrested Red Tory cuck. He turned vaccination into a wedge issue that has bitterly divided the nation and even pit families against each other over the issue of mandates. Enter the the truckers. Yeah, they might be majority white, but this country is still majority white (for the moment) and the protests attracted Canadians of all backgrounds who are sick and tired of his nonsense. Hell, there are member of his own caucus that are now expressing concerns over his divisive policies, notably Quebec City MP Joel Lightbound.
I believe this boils down to ego. Justin craves adoration and recognition like the narcissist he is and will malign those that refuse to give it to him as racist/misogynist/whatever slur you can think of. The Freedom Convoy has captured the world's attention and inspired similar convoys across the world--think about. How many times have Americans followed the Canadians' lead? The truckers are doing what Justin has constantly failed to do and it must grind his gears knowing the working-class riffraff are accomplishing what he couldn't. What's more, he and legacy media in this country have overplayed their hand with the far-right rhetoric. If all they have left is name calling, then what incentive do I have for listening to his trite and melodramatic speeches in the House of Commons? It's important to note that he received less than one-third of the popular vote in the last election. With a 59% voter turnout that is maybe a quarter of the total population and I imagine that many of them aren't that enthusiastic about him. Oh, there are the TruAnon cultists who guzzle the Flavor-Aid as if they were a Jonestown tour group, but that are more likely the fringe minority Trudeau mentioned.
Are we witnessing a realignment of Canadian politics? I am dubious of the prospect. However, the Freedom Convoy has gotten shit done. The Conservatives booted Erin the Tool and Alberta, Saskatchewan, and other provinces have moved to lift their restrictions. What's more is that the protests have revealed that Justin is damaged goods and far from the great unifier that his personality cult believes he is. What we may be witnessing is the beginning of the end of the Justin Trudeau premiership.
