I'm not convinced it's all a grift because his content lacks a lot of the talking points you'd commonly hear from troon breadtubers.

They've only gone to shit if all you care about is AAA. If you look elsewhere there's still tonnes of cool new shit coming out, and even if you just wanna live in the past we're getting fantastic remasters of classic games from studios like Nightdive, not to mention general back-compat getting better all the time, like with the PS3 emulator for PC.

There has literally never been a better time to be into video games, no matter what your tastes are; don't give into the doompillers like Jim, who doesn't even play video games any more.

I would like to add a caveat there that if you want to build a gaming computer it's still pretty awful. Parts prices, particularly GPUs, are still through the roof due to miners and and superconductor shortage. Funny, though: I don't remember Sterling railing against Nvidia or AMD for being capitalists and not wanting to take losses on their products..

Well, I care about AAA too, because AAA has always been a peak technology for gaming. The budgets, the graphics, everything. But recent years are a basic downfall for AAA, we got beta versions of games for 70 EUR, bland characters, nigga vikings, shitty plots written by 7 years old abort survivers, remakes and remasters "adapted for modern auditories" i.a. botched to hell, and of course a shittone of every kind of monetisation there is. The last AAA game I was intrested in was CP77 (yes, I know lol), everything else is just so bland I don't even wanna look there. Of course, I still enjoy strategies, B games, and some older staff, but sometimes you just wanna play something high-end, but there is nothing.

Yahtzee is actually doing some good insightful videos of the industry with his Extra Punctuation series at the moment.
And he puts the jim sterling issues (capitalism worker rights climate diversity) into about 3% of his video and gets the same point across whike keeping on topic and brand.

Its only gone to shit if you are a fat tranny that obsesses over AAA console games. Lot of good games are being made by smaller devs teams right now. Been playing through Necromunda Hired Gun and having a great time. Its jank as fuck and low budget but its a good fucking game. There are tons of good new games coming out every day. The videogame industry has never been better you just need to avoid the big name companies. Jim is just a sad little man that has to try and make everyone as miserable as he is.

TL;DR Yes there is more shit games being produced but there are also more fantastic games being launched.

Let all that info sink in and then compare Jim to someone like YongYea who exists in the same type of gaming news commentary genre and Yong seems to be not only growing his channel he is now the voice of Father Motherfucking Pucci and Yong seems to managed all this by just being a normal dude (well almost normal Yong has an unhealthy obsession with Metal Gear.)
But no Jim will continue to blame other people for his life falling apart, these shadowy transphobes that do not exist and never the person who is actually to blame for it, himself.

Yeah fair point, I'm not really interested in cutting edge graphics or anything so I'm happy with my Series S and 10yo PC.

As to why Jim hasn't covered the chip shortage, that's way too high-brow a topic for him to get into; much easier to carp about NFTs because 'MUH ENVIRONMENT. MUH ARTIST RIGHTS*'

I totally get your frustration, I also miss when AAA were leaders in innovation instead of all copying each other's homework only shittier, I just think it's a massive exaggeration to blanket state video games, as a whole, have gone to shit.

The situation's definitely less than ideal, but in spite of that I still have more games in my backlog than I'll likely be able to play in my lifetime, with plenty more dropping every year that I'm interested in.
