The Official Futurama Griefing Thread - Revived for Hulu because Matt Groening needs to milk his cartoons to death

Has it been that long? Shit, where did the time go?
Even setting aside the current political state of TV writers, is it possible to pick up after 10 years or so and carry on like nothing happened, and be good? Is there any series that has been able to do that?
Well the series takes place a millennium in the future, so not really an issue haha. That’s what I’ve always loved about Futurama is it takes place so far ahead of our time, that aside from a few ‘dated’ modern reimaginings of clear 21st culture, the futuristic setting prevents the show from being dated. Also, I won’t spoil it for those that never watched the true finale but the final scene basically makes the shows replay value limitless, it’s honestly probably the most perfect ending the show could have had. It’s genius.

Heyoo. :P

I get what you mean, but I wasn't talking so much about Futurama as a kind of period piece, as the period when it was broadcast receding quickly into the past. Have we all moved on too much?
Fry has. In real world time he's spent nearly as much time in the future as he lived in the past. And any residual late 90s quirks to his character are now as foreign to us as the 31st century is to him. At least they can't do the "Wow, [accolade] [profession] [name]!" thing the Simpsons does, because he doesn't know any current celebrities. I guess he could still meet celebrities from the 90s who haven't been cancelled.

I met one of the recurring character VAs and they said they could get cancelled for some of the work they've done. If they were joking, they've got a great poker face.

Yeah but Groening would never allow it considering how his passion project of Disenchantment kind of went nowhere, the Fox run was easily the peak of the franchise, I do really like the TV movies and felt they kept in spirit with the original series. They should have ended it there, it was a good natural conclusion to the show. Anyway I’m really glad we got a Futurama thread after all these years, too bad this revival is almost certainly gonna be a shitshow, Should have stayed dead since 2013 but alas money reasons.
The right attitude to take with these projects is not get angry or sad; that is way of the sperg. Instead, you should read the reviews, and if they are bad, then just ignore it and pretend it doesn't exist.

Assume that the Hulu episode are complete garbage. Does that make the Fox, or even the good CC shows bad? No, I say, especially given Futurama's episodic nature.

Just say The Devil Hands or Meanwhile are real finale and move on with your life.

I think you mean ‘Meanwhile’ but yeah I totally agree, these Hulu episodes will probably be middling ‘disenchantment’ levels of comedy, and it’ll be odd not hearing Benders iconic voice anymore but we can all live with it and it probably won’t be too awful if they can get the proper writing team.

Is the DiMaggio thing a way of drumming up interest? Act like they won't have the real Bender, hope for a fan backlash, bring him in "under pressure" from the fans, and act like this is now"the authentic" Futurama.

I liked the Comedy Central episodes more as opposed to the Fox seasons, though there are a few jokes I liked in the earlier episodes. I hated the direct-to-video movies.

Despite the show already being very diverse and showcasing a wide array of planets and species, I"m pretty sure it will get the "woke" treatment like every revival or reboot seems to get.

One of my favourite episodes from the Fox run was Bend Her, where Bender became a troon athlete because he knew he couldn't compete with the stronger male robots. Then he easily beat all the female athletes. Quite funny how this became a reality in contemporary times. If this subject matter is done in the Disney revival, I'm sure there wouldn't be "gender testing" and I'd bet all the main cast would lovingly support Bender (or whoever the troon of the episode is) as he crushes the female competition.

Yeah that's the best attitude to have with reboots or continuations of stuff that already ended. It's best to just pretend it doesn't exist and move on with your life.

Yeah that is definitely one of the few things that puts Futurama above the Simpsons, (that and even the worst of Futurama is just meh while the worst of Simpsons is cringeworthy garbage)

And manipulate Calculon into marrying him just so that he could divorce him for the money. Bender had a better understanding of the female mind better than actual women.

Disenchantment was bad because it wanted to be a serial written by comedians who don't make serials and it fucking shows in the writing. The villain changes literally every episode as we find out that the villain actually had another villain behind them the whole time and they weren't actually evil but they were actually evil because 4 villains later THEY were the real villain behind that villain. So they can't focus on episode-to-episode storylines because they've mishmashed together a nonsensical overarching storyline in its place.

If you haven't already, I definitely recommend tracking down rips of the show that include the DVD commentaries. They're almost as good as the show itself and a better way to spend your time than with a reboot of something that already ended well enough already.

It's going to get canceled and they'll do another finale ending only for it to be uncanceled later and for them to do yet another finale ending.

Then they'll probably do a movie.

It's going to be weird seeing a character sperg about Republicans and white privilege in a distant future world in which neither of those things exist and earth is populated by thousands of non human species.

You just know they're going to add dumbass le current year politics that make zero sense in a sci fi setting.
